14OLB COLD PRESSED GUMMED BLOCK WATER COLOUR PAPER ROUND BRUSHES PAPER TOWEL
WATER SOLUBLE PENCILS
MASKING FLUID…molotow grafx masking liquid
MISSION WATER COLOURS…permanant yellow bight, yellow green, hookers green, burnt sienna.
WINDSOR AND NEWTON WATER COLOURS…colbolt violet and potters pink
step 1
mask out the middle of the blossoms
step 2
whilst you are waiting for the masking fluid to dry, get all your colours ready
step 3 start laying down the shapes of the petals with different
shades of pink
step 4
blot out areas where the light catches the petals…keep using your photo as reference
step 5 keep building up the petal shape with the pink paint getting
darker as you go
step 6
start adding the centre interest and the foliage
step 7
add the branch and stems
step 8 notice the lovely granulation
step 9
start shading the petal…use the natural run backs of the
the watercolour to your advantage…the parts you blotted out should also help you

use a water soluble pencil to start adding details to the petals
step 11 sand the water soluble pencil on to the damp watercolour to give the impression of pollen
step 12 carry on building up layers and adding details with a water
soluble pencil

leave to dry completely…do not use heat as you wont be able to lift off the masking fluid. when dry remove the
masking fluid…i used a putty rubber for this.

start adding the centre details…keep referring to your reference

fish off by adding a few darker shadows…and you are done!!
