Information Technology Solutions
Industry: Legal
Number of Users: 2,500
SOLUTION:
PortalGuard’s Transparent User
Authentication provides additional data from
the client device during a user’s
authentication request. For external access
to the environment via a web browser, the
customer configured PortalGuard to provide
additional data containing, but was not
limited to, the user’s geolocation, device
type, machine specific identifiers, time of day
and network information (i.e. WiFi
connectivity). This contextual data,
specifically the user’s current network, is
applied in real-time to the user’s or user
group’s profile/creditability policy and an
appropriate authentication method is
enforced including be able to block any
unauthorized access requests all together.

Usage Scenario
CHALLENGE:
The customer uses a SaaS-based
document management solution. Users
are required to login to the SaaS
application to access private documents.
Currently users have the ability to login on
any unencrypted or WEP encrypted WiFi,
which should not be allowed. Also of
concerned is the potential of users
connecting to mobile ad-hoc networks
acting as public hotspots while roaming,
such as at an airport. These networks are
setup by hackers to sniff information while
the user is gaining access to resources.
Essentially, the customer is seeking to
block any access to private documents via
any unsecured, unofficial public WiFi or
connecting to any mobile ad-hoc network
posing as an official hotspot.
