  • What a string of picture-perfect days we had

last weekend. Blue skies, sunshine and 70+ degree

temperatures replaced the 6 inch snow of the weekend

before! Who wouldn’t want to be outside glorying in

long-awaited Spring? Yet here, on that beautiful

Saturday, many gathered inside, invited to a new

parishioner Meet & Greet. These newly-registered

members of our parish filled the room to the max!

They shared stories of what led them to Blessed

    Trinity -- parish-shopping, years of searching, love-at-

first-sight experiences, “all are welcome.” Bright

sunshine and warm breezes beckoned from outside,

but it was inside in those moments, that God’s

presence was felt most powerfully with glimpses of

God’s amazing work. We teach 3 yr. olds about the

Kingdom of God with language to express that -- “it

grows, we know not how”… The very next day,

another spectacular Spring day outside -- and within

the walls of our church God mysteriously at work. A

young woman joins us, who had not been to church

since her youth. She brings her daughter to Church

for the very first time. What brought her through our

doors and on that day of all days? What prompted Sr.

Fran to notice her and before they left to reach out and

start a conversation? What seed was planted?

Our faith is an amazing gift from God. Like the

seed our faith grows, we know not how, but with

nurturing care it blossoms and bears fruit. This Easter

Season let us be mindful of the gift of New Life,

treasure the faith we share, and listen to God’s voice

to recognize our part in God’s plan.

The following are guidelines for our sacramental

preparation and faith formation programs for youth.

Parents and guardians have been given the primary

responsibility of sharing faith and a Christian life with

their (child)ren. Today it takes deliberate action to

make faith formation a priority. Please prayerfully

consider God’s voice in family life.

Infants and young children prepare for and

celebrate baptism at the request of their parents.

Parents and godparents receive instruction in the faith

and the baptismal rite. Children are instructed as their

age allows. At Blessed Trinity the sacrament of

baptism is celebrated within the community at a

weekend liturgy. The faithful are fully involved,

signing the child with the cross of our faith and

    recommitting to our baptismal promises.

Preparation for Eucharist usually follows during the

second grade year with participation in the parish

program, The Children of Light. Parents and children

attend sessions together. A special connection is

made with the community through the Prayer Partner

program. The sacrament of Eucharist is celebrated

with the community at a weekend liturgy. Children

can celebrate First Communion during the Easter

Season with the group or individually, choosing their

    own date and mass time.

In our diocese youth in grades 8-10 are eligible for

Confirmation. Candidates, with their parents and/or

sponsors, participate in faith formation experiences to

deepen their relationship with Jesus. Confirmation

takes place at St. John’s Cathedral on the eve of

    Pentecost.

Sacramental celebration is different for youth who

are unbaptized and have reached the age of reason (7

years old) when they desire to be baptized.

Preparation for these youth follows the Rite of

Christian Initiation for Adults. At this age, youth go

through steps leading to full initiation. They celebrate

the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and

    Eucharist at the Easter Vigil.

Blessed Trinity Parish’s mission states that we

celebrate God’s gift of diversity. We make an effort

to be welcoming to all, especially to those who may

feel they don’t “fit in.” This year we were able to

implement an adaptive faith formation program to

serve children with special needs, helping them grow

in their understanding of our faith and deepen their

participation within a loving community. We hope

more families will take advantage of this program so

that no child will be overlooked or excluded because

    s/he does not “fit in.”

The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd for 3-5 year

olds is Montessori-based religious formation. Children

meet in the atrium, a space prepared especially for

them with child-size furnishings and materials.

Unbreakable figures, intended for hands-on-use by the

children, are used to tell stories of Jesus’ life. There is

a prayer table and a model altar to help children grow

in the practice of our faith.

An elementary age child, who attends a non-

Catholic school, should be enrolled in our Parish

    School of Religion (PSR) program.

Make plans to register for sacramental preparation

and faith formation programs for youth next month!
