MISSION STATEMENT: Blessed Trinity Catholic Church Stewardship Community recognizes Jesus is Lord. We believe that

our Time, Talent and Treasure are gifts from God to be used for the spiritual, educational and social needs of

our community, the Diocese and the world at large, especially the poor.

STEWARDSHIP BY THE BOOK

Peter, James, and John wanted to build a “booth” for Jesus and just stay on the mountain

where His transfiguration took place. But the Son of God, the Chosen One, knew that He must

instead keep moving toward His crucifixion. We, too, must rise from worship and do what we

can to hasten the coming of the kingdom.

In last week’s Gospel, we followed Jesus into the desert where He fasted and prayed. This week, He leads us up a mountain to witness His Transfiguration. Why both of these experiences? He is preparing us to go with Him in a few short weeks to a hilltop — Golgatha — where He will lay down His life for our sake, and then finally to take us to an empty cave where He triumphed over sin and death once and for all. Jesus perfectly understands our humanity. He knows we need desert experiences — times of self-denial and testing — in order to arrive at mountain-top moments when we see and feel His glorious presence in our lives. The purpose of these two types of experiences is summed up in the description of the Apostles who were with Jesus at that mountain-top experience in today’s Gospel: “Peter and his companions had been overcome by sleep, but becoming fully awake, they saw his glory….” The reason for all of our fasting and prayer and almsgiving during lent is to be reawakened to all God has done for humanity, and to all that He has done for each of us personally. It is all too easy to get lulled into complacency in our daily routines, to “sleepwalk” through life, getting up and getting ourselves out the door, going to work, returning home for dinner and dishes, meetings or sports activities, and finally flopping on the couch to watch TV until bed-time. While there is nothing inherently sinful in this routine, as Christian stewards, we are called to so much more! This lent, let us train ourselves, or more precisely, allow Him to train us to say “Yes” to His will and to offer our lives back to Him in gratitude. In so doing, we, too, will become “transfigured.” This is what it means to live fully awake; this is a stewardship way of life and it is glorious indeed. Book of The Week: "Prayer, Fasting and Almsgiving Spiritual Practices That Draw Us Closer to God" by Kevin Perrotta Jesus wants these three spiritual disciplines to work for us. Although, like a physical fitness program, we can go through the motions of these practices without deriving much benefit from them. Only the Holy Spirit can make us holy. Prayer, fasting and Almsgiving are ways of seeking the Holy Spirit's help, ways of beginning to cooperate with his work in us.

MISSION TRIP TO NICARAGUA My name is Ariana Morales. I’m a senior at the University of Florida. I attended BT from Kindergarten through 8th, and TC for high school. The organization Projects for Haiti, or P4H, was started almost ten years ago by two UF students. Like any other mission trip organization, P4H was created to aid vulnerable populations—specifically the one in Haiti. Now P4H is going to a whole new country- Nicaragua! And I get to be a part of it. From May 11th- May 17th I will be joining an Impact Trip to Nicaragua. The cost for me to go is $1200, including airfare, housing, and everything I could need while over there. Anything you could give, whether $5 or $500, is SO appreciated and prayed for. Please look for me after Mass outside the main entrance. I would love to share more about my story and the heart behind this mission. If you can’t donate towards my trip, I ask that you please be praying for me as it approaches! Please keep the people of Nicaragua and the group of students I will be traveling with in your prayers.
