Having enjoyed my retreat week at Holy Family Retreat House in Oxley I returned to the Family refreshed and enlivened by God’s graces. I attended the Diocesan Study Days in London and presented at two Workshops the working of the

Family of Parishes. The work that we have accomplished in the Family was well received and gave insights to those who will still come to become Families. The main presentations were given by Ann Garrido and Father Scott Steinkercherner, OP. They shared with us the effective manner to Collaborative Conversations. Our Parish Team enjoyed the days with the teams from the Diocese. It is good networking for all of us.

Colleen is on vacation for the next week and Father Don returns from Portugal this week. This past week Rob Renaud from St. Joseph Parish was ordained a Transitional Deacon at Mount Carmel Parish in Windsor. A transitional deacon is one who is preparing for ordination to priesthood. We wish Rob well and as a parish we have given him a gift of an alb.

Coming to the end of the Easter Season with today’s feast of the Ascension and next Sunday’s feast of Pentecost we give thanks for the joyful season that has enlivened our hearts and given us the good news of the Risen Lord and the promise we share in Him of eternal life. Alleluia!

I am working on a new weekday Mass schedule that will take effect on Tuesday, July 2. This has been necessitated by Our Lady of Victory coming on board in the Family of Parishes as well as our having three priests. I have tried to be fair in sharing the Masses in the five churches by having two Masses at each church in the week. We will have Masses in the Family Monday through Saturday. The schedule is as follows –

Monday at 8 am. at Our Lady of Victory;

Tuesday at 8 am. at St. Agnes and at 7 pm. at St. Ursula;

Wednesday at 8 am. at Blessed Sacrament and at 12 noon at St. Joseph;

Thursday at 8 am. at St. Agnes and at 9:30 am. at St. Ursula;

Friday at 8 am. at Blessed Sacrament and at 12 Noon at St. Joseph;

Saturday at 9 am. at Our Lady of Victory.

Once a month on the First Friday there will be an additional Mass at Our Lady of Victory to begin the All Night Adoration at 9 pm. and will run until the Saturday morning Mass at 9 am. Next week I will detail the times for Confessions and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament at our churches. The weekend Mass schedule will remain the same with the addition of the Masses at Our Lady of Victory that they presently celebrate. The new weekend Mass schedule will happen in January 2020.

DAILY MASS INTENTIONS As Fr. Jim mentioned, above we begin the new daily Mass times on July 2. We will resume taking Mass Intentions to book on June 24. This will allow us time to prepare our databases for new intentions.

FAMILY OF PARISHES NEIGHBOURHOOD CHALLENGE

We invite and challenge you to be intentional neighbours in our communities for the glory of God! See how many connections you can make in your neighbourhood this week. It may be a simple greeting, a smile, a conversation. Later you can give thanks in prayer to God for this opportunity and extend a prayer for one of your neighbours. “All it takes is a simple hello once in a while to foster a small connection, which can form a later sense of being part of a bigger “family”. “

FR. DON’S On the weekend of June 16 and June 23 we are setting aside times after Masses so you can say good bye to Fr. Don. These occasions will take place in the parish halls.

June 16 - after 9:00 am Mass at Blessed Sacrament

June 16 - after 11:00 am Mass at St. Agnes

June 23 - after 10:00 am Mass at St. Ursula June 23 - after 12 noon Mass at St. Joseph

DO YOU HAVE A LOVED ONE WHO IS IN HOSPITAL, CONFINED TO THEIR HOME, IN A LONG TERM CARE FACILITY OR AT HOSPICE?

The only way we have of knowing when one of our parishioners is sick or infirmed is when a family member or friend tells us.

If you know of someone who is unable to get to Mass, and they would like a visit from a member of the Pastoral Team or to receive any of the Sacraments, please let Pastoral Minister Karen Robert know.

Before you call, remember to get the permission of your family member or friend as required by the Privacy Act.

Karen can be reached at 519-352-9483 ext. 27 or via email [email protected].

CHURCH CHUCKLE

Little Philip was walking home in the rain with his mother, following Sunday worship. It finally stopped raining and as they rounded the corner to their surprise and delight appeared a vivid double rainbow in the sky.

“Doesn’t it look like an artist painted this rainbow?” his mother exclaimed. “I bet God painted this just for you!”

“Yes,” replied Philip, “God did it, and he did it left handed.”

Confused, his mother asked him, “What makes you say God did this with his left hand?”

“Well”, said Philip, “We learned in Sunday School that Jesus sits on God’s right hand.”

PRAYER FOR THE ASCENSION OF THE LORD

Let us pray on this day of Ascension

as we watch and wait for Jesus' return Father in heaven,

our minds were prepared for the coming of your kingdom

when you took Christ beyond our sight so that we might seek him in glory.

May we follow where he has led and find our hope in his glory, for he is Lord forever. Amen

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION The mystery of the Ascension has to do with holding in tension a sense of God’s nearness, along with the burden caused by apparent signs of absence. The risen Jesus says to Mary Magdalene, “Do not cling to me,” perhaps pointing out to her that his physical presence to the disciples was time‑bound and temporary. It was a gift for their transformation, and after forty days, he vanished from their sight and hearing, though never out of their consciousness. They do not mourn at his going this time: there is no trace of the disciples who hid in fear at his crucifixion, no sense of the women who wept softly as they carried ointments to the tomb through the dewy morning light. Instead, the scriptural accounts show them full of joy, comforted by his promise to be with them forever, and open to the Spirit’s power. They are joyful, energized, aware, and united with one another in love. They seem to grasp an awareness that if the mission to the whole world was a serious one, then the presence of the Risen Christ could not be pinned down to any one place or time, but had to be always and everywhere completely available. All peoples, all times, all cultures were opened to receive him in this moment of the Ascension. The energy of this feast is drawn not from absence, but renewed and deeper presence. —James Field, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
