WRIGHT FROM THE CARDINAL Dear friends in the Lord:
Whenever I receive letters from parishioners, no letter cheers me more than when I read how much the faithful love their priests. And as you know, most were educated and formed at our own seminary, St. Joseph’s, Dunwoodie.
Our seminarians are not only the future shepherds of our flock, but they are also spiritual guides and leaders in our communities. We must be sure that they are as well prepared as possible to serve the Church in New York. And Dunwoodie is that place of formation and has been for the past 122 years. Thousands of holy, dedicated and faithful priests have been ordained over these years. It is nationally renowned, held in the highest regard by bishops from around the country. Each year, other dioceses and religious orders send their candidates to our priestly formation program.
As I write to you today, I ask you to consider, in your own prayer, a sacrificial gift to the Annual Seminary Appeal. It will be collected on the weekend of September 28-29, 2019. Your support will provide tuition, room, and board, academic training and spiritual formation for about 22 seminarians of the archdiocese. In a word, your support will help prepare young men who will inspire those letters of admiration that I receive daily about so many of our great priests.
The priesthood is a life of sacrifice and service. As you know, we do not have as many men making the commitment to serve as priests as we did years ago, and I am so grateful to those who accept the Lord’s call. Please help me in providing for our seminarians who will had on the life and tradition of the Church as they embark on their training to become your priests. To learn more visit www.dunwoodie.edu.
With gratitude and prayerful best wishes, I am, Faithfully in Christ, Timothy Michael Cardinal Dolan Archbishop of New York
ALBA HOUSE The Chapel’s Leaders have decided to suspend Eucharistic Adoration in the Chapel at The Alba House. This difficult decision was not reached without prayerful consideration of many factors. The building has a few conditions that could cause safety concerns. We want to avoid any risk of injury to anyone worshiping on site. We are actively pursuing an opportunity to resume Adoration at another site in the area as soon as possible. REGIS HIGH SCHOOL Regis High School, an all-scholarshi Jesuit school for talented and gifted Catholic boys, invites students and their parents to its Staten Island Admissions Information Night. Wed., Sept. 25th, 7pm at St. Joseph Hill Academy, 850 Hylan Blvd. For more info contact: Eric DiMichele, Director Of Admissions, 212-288-1100 X2057.
PROJECT HOSPITALITY TO HONOR MONSIGNOR FINN
Project Hospitality (PH) is holding its annual Harvest Gala at the Hilton Garden Inn on Monday, Sept. 23, 2019. The festivities start with a cocktail hour at 6:30PM, followed by dinner and the evening's program at 7:30PM. (Event cards have been placed In the back of the Church listing all the details of the evening's celebration). A highlight of the evening will be honoring Monsignor Finn with the Richard E. Diamond Memorial Award for exemplary commitment to people in need, one of PH's most prestigious awards. He has been selected to receive the award for his many years of serving on the Board of Directors of PH. What better way to show our love and appreciation for Msgr. Finn than by attending the celebration. Let's pack the house and put our hands together with many others in gratitude and appreciation for a life well-lived in loving God and serving those in need. Tickets for the event are $150.00 per person, and may be obtained by calling the number on the Event card.
