Well, from my remembrance of the old TV show All in the Family, theologian Archie Bunker defined faith as, “Believing something that no one in their right mind would believe.” As our world sits in turmoil with the coronavirus pandemic, the Church gets questions like: “Why would God let this happen?” Why would I believe anything that they have to say about this?“How can such a bad thing happen to someone so young?” This Divine Mercy Sunday reminds us all that faith comes from God’s infinite mercy. If faith is a gift from God, then why don’t we all have it? Much like every gift from God, faith is a gift offered to all, but we must choose to receive it through our own free will. It’s our choice whether or not we want to blame God for our difficulties, especially now in our present circumstances. My own struggle with faith causes me to begin my prayers to God with one wordwhy? It’s in my questioning, that I hear my own spiritual director ask me, “Why not?” My spiritual director isn’t trying to be sarcastic, but rather he’s trying to get me to think outside the box. In other words, to have faith. The Apostle Thomas had to get outside of his box to believe that Jesus had risen from the dead. In his world, they taught you that if you’re dead, you’re dead. But Thomas learned that wasn’t so, because in faith, even death means new life, eternal life. Think about all of the things that have changed in your own life in the past month or so. How has your confinement at home, and all of the caution that we’ve been told to exercise, brought you new life? Not just protection from a virus? Second Sunday Of Easter (Sunday of Divine Mercy)

What is faith? How would you define it? Well, from my remembrance of the old TV show “All in the

Family,” theologian Archie Bunker defined faith as, “Believing something that no one in their right

mind would believe.”

As our world sits in turmoil with the coronavirus pandemic, the Church gets questions like: “Why

would God let this happen?” “Why would I believe anything that they have to say about this?” “How

can such a bad thing happen to someone so young?” This Divine Mercy Sunday reminds us all that faith comes from

God’s infinite mercy.

If faith is a gift from God, then why don’t we all have it? Much like every gift from God, faith is a gift offered to all, but we

must choose to receive it through our own free will.

It’s our choice whether or not we want to blame God for our difficulties, especially now in our present circumstances. My

own struggle with faith causes me to begin my prayers to God with one word—why?

It’s in my questioning, that I hear my own spiritual director ask me, “Why not?” My spiritual director isn’t trying to be

sarcastic, but rather he’s trying to get me to think outside the box. In other words, to have faith.

The Apostle Thomas had to get outside of his box to believe that Jesus had risen from the dead. In his world, they taught

you that if you’re dead, you’re dead. But Thomas learned that wasn’t so, because in faith, even death means new life,

eternal life.

Think about all of the things that have changed in your own life in the past month or so. How has your confinement at

home, and all of the caution that we’ve been told to exercise, brought you new life? Not just protection from a virus? The

disciples were no longer defeated after Jesus’ resurrection, because they, too, were made new and were risen with Christ.

Let our resurrection be a faithful reality, as well. Let us rise with Jesus in His mercy and love. Fr. Marty

This would be a great time to create a space in your home for prayer. A small table with a white tablecloth, your family bible, a crucifix, holy water and candles are examples of how to personalize this space to help your family focus on prayer. Use this space when you watch Mass on the weekends

via parish websites or Facebook. The following is a great article from a Catholic blogger about creating a prayer corner in your home. :https://blessedisshe.net/blog/prayer-corner/ Spiritual Communion Prayer My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if you were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. AMEN.

Please remember the following individuals in your prayers, who are experiencing serious health problems/issues: Roseann Anderson Anna Blake Cari Cobler Dawn Ferris

Agnes Fila Cookie Gilroy Anita Graf Karen Hulit Marie Jakubowski Earleen Moroney Larry Palacz Evelyn Rech Bill Reher Teresa Scarborough Ted Schlick Rosalie Schriner Fr. Louis Sellam Joanne Vodehnal Elizabeth Webster Emily Webster

Our Deepest Sympathy to the Families of:

Isidore ‘Diz’ Grudzinski and Elaine Wissing.

MAY THEY REST IN PEACE.

A Prayer in this Time of the Coronavirus Lord Jesus Christ, our Divine Physician, we ask you to guard and protect us from Coronavirus COVID-19 and

from all serious illness. For all those who have died from it, have mercy; for those who are ill now, bring healing. For those searching for a remedy, enlighten them; for medical caregivers helping the sick, strengthen and

shield them. For those working to contain the spread, grant them success; for those afraid, grant peace. May your precious blood be our defense and our salvation.

By your grace, may you turn the evil of disease into moments of consolation and hope. May we always fear the contagion of sin more than any illness. We abandon

ourselves to your infinite mercy. Amen.
