“Let us follow the star of inspiration and divine attraction, which calls us to the crib, and let us go thither to adore and love the child Jesus and offer ourselves to him.” -St. Clare of Assisi This is the 60th Anniversary of our parish community... the 60th time we have come together on this most holy night to celebrate the birth of our Savior – Jesus Christ. We come together in prayer and worship to celebrate the perfect gift of God’s love in Jesus Christ. If you do a google search of key events in 1957, you will find that many of the same issues we are facing today were happening back then. The world order was changing and people were flocking to the Church to pray for peace and God’s protection in their families. Throughout all these years, Saint Ambrose has been a special place for people of every age to come together in faith and prayer. Our community has always been committed to the teaching of the Gospel and strong family values. The community has always looked to our church for help, hope and comfort in their times of need. This Christmas, we give thanks to God for all of our loved ones who have set such a strong foundation for our families and for our parish family. We renew our commitment to pray for peace and hold firm to the values of faith and family. Thank you for all you do for our parish community. Over these past few months, hundreds and thousands of people have been blessed by your goodness and generosity. We may not be ‘changing the whole world,” but we are making a real difference in their lives and in the life of our community. Happy Anniversary. Merry Christmas. -St. Clare of Assisi

This is the 60th Anniversary of our parish community...the 60th time we have come together on this most holy night to celebrate the birth of our Savior – Jesus Christ.

May God bless you and our parish community abundantly in the new year. As always, please let me know how we can be of help and support for you and your loved ones.

Serving Neighbors is Our Way

We are called to love our neighbors as ourselves, and this takes on a special meaning in the winter days when snow hits the driveways and sidewalks. So many of our seniors are not able to tend to their own drives. It’s incredibly essential that their drives and walks are open, especially in the case of an emergency, but this does not always happen. Project SNOW is simply a call for each of us to be good neighbors to our homebound and our seniors. Please help keep their drives and walks open and accessible. Want to lend a hand? Call the Parish Office to share how you can help. You know the need. You know your neighbors. When the snow falls, Serve your Neighbor – after all, it’s Our Way as followers of Jesus and members of Saint Ambrose Parish.

Speaking of those neighbors? Is someone in your family, or neighborhood, homebound (either during the winter or throughout the year)? Please let us know so that we can visit and bring them Holy Communion. We want to take care of all our members. Our Good Samaritan ministry is happy to extend the care, compassion, and Communion of Jesus Christ to our homebound.

Please contact the Parish Office (330.460.7300 or [email protected]) with information, or to arrange a visit for someone in your family.

Reflecting on our BlessingsAs we have been celebrating our 60th anniversary year and have been reflecting on the blessings of God in our community. Last week we received the wonderful news that Bishop Perez has given us permission to move forward on the repair and renovation of our worship space. For more information about what we need to do and are hoping to do, please take some time to watch the video on the parish website. www.StAmbrose.us/Vision2020

Welcome to Saint Ambrose

Catholic Parish!

Community OutreachDo you have a home repair project that you may need help with? If so, our Community Outreach team is here to help.

We have a very skilled Community Outreach team that offers assistance to those that may need help completing a home project. Our team has many talented hands on board and can help with a vast array of projects—anything from caulking a bathroom to painting a room…and most things in between! We also do a variety of outdoor projects in the warmer months. Now that the colder months are here, we are looking to fill our calendar with indoor projects. If you are in need of help with a home project, contact Jane at [email protected] or 330.460.7381.

Our Community Outreach team truly lives out the message of Christ every single month when they are busy at work helping others! These projects truly cannot be done by the parishioners themselves for various reasons, and our team brings the care and compassion of Christ into their homes every time they put their tool belts on. We are blessed by their powerful, skilled and busy hands, as well as their giving and loving hearts. We are always looking for additional hands to help with our monthly projects.

Contact Lisa at [email protected] or Jane at [email protected] if you are interested in joining our team.

Pray40DaysSmall Faith Sharing GroupsWe are blessed with an incredibly large parish, with over 15,000 members and 5,000 families. In communities this large, it may be difficult to not feel lost in the shuffle. At Saint Ambrose, we pride ourselves on making sure YOU are given the care and attention you need. One of the many ways we accomplish this is through Small Faith Sharing Groups in homes.

Last Lent we had 200 parishioners in 30 Small Faith Sharing Groups. This year our groups will focus on Fr. Michael Denk’s Lent Mission, Pray 40 Days. The Mission will be on February,

11 – 13, with groups starting after that on numerous dates and times. Our group leaders are already preparing for the groups as they go through Pray 40 Days as an Advent study.

If you would like to lead a group this Lent, please contact Jane Baldwin at 330.460.7381 or [email protected].

We believe that not only does Jesus still heal today, but that healing is one of the most powerful ministries of evangelization. Jesus never preached the Gospel of the kingdom of God without demonstrating the kingdom through signs, wonders and miracles, with healing as the most frequent

demonstration of God’s love. Let us confidently gather before our Eucharistic Lord to seek His grace of healing!

Complete 40-Day Prayer Program

In these next 40 days your prayer life will be set on fire! You will actually meet Jesus and have a conversation with him. you will experience God the Father as a tender, caring, deeply personal presence in your life. you will discover the Holy Spirit as not just some ambiguous, fleeting, and abstract idea, but a real personal force of inspiration, presence, and overwhelming joy in your life.

“Fr Michael Denk’s challenge: ‘What if I told you that in the next 40 days, God could become “real” to you?’ has resulted in an approachable, practical guide to deepening your relationship with God. Think of it as a call to reignite the loving joy Jesus wants so much for us!”

AblazeWishing all Junior High PSR students, families and volunteers the merriest of Christmases! Being new to Saint Ambrose this year, I have been amazed by the outpouring of support for our Junior High PSR programs by volunteers, parents and students alike. Each week, I have the opportunity to see students grow in their faith and joyfully engage in materials that offer a deeper understanding of how Christ works in their lives.

After launching the new EDGE program in conjunction with our regular PSR programming, ALL Junior High students of the Parish have been invited to take a closer look at the fruits of the Holy Spirit while fellowshipping with friends both old and new. These special EDGE Nights will continue into the new year with the next one schedule for January 29th, 2018!

During the Advent season, Junior High students and their families helped serve those less fortunate by providing hats and gloves to the Junior High urban scholars of Boys Hope/Girls Hope of North East Ohio and the service opportunities will only continue into the new year!

On January 15th ALL Junior High students and their parents are invited to the Martin Luther King Day of Service here at Saint Ambrose from 11 am - 2 pm.

I pray that we remain focused this season on the MIRACLE OF JESUS CHRIST coming to the world and that with him in mind we are grateful for the many blessings he has bestowed upon us.

Advent at Saint Ambrose Catholic School is traditionally full of opportunities for us to prepare for the coming of Jesus who is Everything for us. Beautifully, there was a deeper sense of the Holy Spirit at work this year.

Along with our annual Giving Tree that allows us to minister with Catholic Works of Mercy to provide much-needed items for those in need, a new tradition began at our parish school during Advent this year: the Giving Manger. As part of our Advent preparations, the “Giving Manger” helped our students and staff focus their efforts on watchful waiting for Christmas. Mr. Chris Mullen, our HSP Math Teacher, made a beautiful wooden manger as the focal point. The manger is located in the lower level hallway next to our school’s Giving Tree. During Advent, everyone was reminded to offer up little sacrifices and perform peaceful acts for Jesus. Students were given pieces of “straw” (yarn) for each time they let their lights shine in these ways. The students then placed the “straw” in the wooden manger. It was truly a beautiful experience to watch our students work hard to make a cozy resting place for the newborn King!

To the joy of our school family, St. Nicholas and St. Ambrose made their annual visits on December 6 and December 7, respectively. The gentlemen stopped in each classroom to visit and share their great love for the Lord and others. Students and staff put one of their shoes in the hallway and received a candy cane and a piece of chocolate on St. Nicholas Day. We are so thankful for the small group of ladies who annually make chocolate beehives to celebrate our patron saint, the “honey-tongued preacher.” The delicious candy was distributed to our school family on St. Ambrose’s feast day, December 7.

We were invited to participate again this year in “The Fish Christmas Wish” during 95.5 The Fish radio station’s broadcast from Chick-fil-A in Strongsville on December 8. Some members of our school choir shared ways we helped others during Thanksgiving and the Advent season, then sang, “Shine, Jesus, Shine”. It was heartwarming to listen to our students share their own light that early morning! Sharing with you the Glory, the Wonder, the Miracle of this Holy Season. From our Saint Ambrose Catholic School Family to yours, may you have a peace-filled and blessed Christmas and 2018!

In Christ,

Lisa Cinadr 330.460.7350 | [email protected]

Littlest Angels Preschool A Gift to You is one of my favorite songs of the Advent season. This song reminds us all of God’s great gifts to us...Jesus, life, everything we have, everything we will be!

We are called to give the gifts we have been given back to God through service and praise and singing! It has been a blessing to share the Advent season with our littlest angels! What a joy to see Christmas through the eyes of our preschool children. They are full of wonder, awe and excitement!

I wish you every gift at Christmas and that your gifts to God are even greater! Merry Christmas and Happy Birthday Jesus!

DIALOGUE AT THE GOSPEL:Priest: The Lord be with you. People: And with your spirit.

Priest: A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Luke. People: Glory to you, O Lord.

NICENE CREED (bow during italics)I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven,

and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man.

For our sake he was crucifiedunder Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to theresurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.

PETITIONS:Gift of Peace, hear our prayer.

2. Sing, choirs of angels, sing in exultation,Sing, all ye citizens of heav’n above!Glory to God, all glory in the highest;O come, let us adore him, O come, let us adore him,O come, let us adore him, Christ, the Lord!

3. Yea, Lord, we greet thee, born this happy morning,Jesus, to thee be all glory giv’n;Word of the Father, now in flesh appearing;O come, let us adore him, O come, let us adore him,O come, let us adore him, Christ, the Lord! One of my favorite times of the year is Christmastime! I look forward to seeing family and friends, as we enjoy each other’s company, singing those familiar songs of the season. Amidst it all, it sometimes is very easy to forget the real reason why we celebrate: The Birth of Our Lord, Jesus Christ-The Gift of Peace!

As we gather together at the Table of the Lord, kneeling before the Christ Child as He lays in the manger, let us wonder in awe of the newborn babe. Jesus Christ, the Gift of Peace is born today, in our hearts.

My Christmas Wish: Wishing for you…and yours…and your friends...to join!

Our Music Ministry is in full-swing and gearing up for the New Year! We will begin preparing for Passiontide, Lent, Holy Week and Easter quite soon.

Our teens are doing an amazing job playing and singing at the Sunday 5:00pm Mass for FIAT and Confirmation nights. We are growing, and always welcoming new members to join this band!

Bell Choir is ringing away! They rang for Fr. Wenz’s Mass in October, Mass of Remembrance, Thanksgiving Day, a funeral for a founding members of the bells, and Christmas Eve. As we continue forward, we would like to grow to have two groups of ringers. Consider joining us today, no music reading is required!

Our children in Angel’s Choir continue to work so hard each week for the many exciting singing opportunities we have! Some of those include the National Anthem at Progressive Field, Weekend Masses, prelude music for our Fall Mission, Fall Harvest Festival, Living Nativity, Christmas Pageant and Christmas Eve Mass. New members are always welcome to join anytime, and we continue to rock on for the New Year with many, many exciting opportunities ahead!

Our amazing, harmonious and ALIVE Adult Choir keeps on

singing, singing, singing! This dedicated group not only serves the weekend and holiday masses, but for special services as well. For instance they came together to make a difference in the hearts and minds of those who have suffered addiction to heroin, and loss back in November for the “Greater Than Heroin” Regional Prayer Services. Their voices, harmonies, and presence meant more to those in attendance, than words can express. Rehearsals always intertwines great work, with really meaningful laughter and we always close with time for prayer, reflection, and remembrance. As we continue to prepare for the next liturgical seasons, please reach out to me or any other member to join in this important and energy-filled ministry!

So there it is. My Christmas Wish...May Jesus Christ the Gift of Peace be in your days, hearts, families, country, nations, and world.

-Matthew
