Message from the Padre
Our Gospel this weekend is about the BEATITUDES. The Beati-
tudes are a kind of road map for anyone who seeks to attain happiness in the
Kingdom of God. Yes, Jesus says blessed are those who suffer for the King-
dom of God. This suffering is not about poverty, hunger or weeping. This
suffering is about accepting the cross from the “hatred, insult, ridicule and de-
nouncement of the Son of Man.” These are the “Woes” of life that Jesus is
warning us about, because often times we dare ourselves to follow the woes of
life, a path of passing and fleeting happiness, instead of a path of
“Blessedness” and secured happiness with God.
My dear friends, the message of the Beatitudes is not a pretense of empty
promises. We have to admit that it is not easy to live up to these Beatitudes. We are all invited to do our best
to use them as an example, because they are a great spiritual insight and encouragement that help us to live our
lives in holiness. Yes, the Beatitudes of Blessedness portray a life directed towards holiness. They are spiri-
tual insight, encouragement and warning that point to the most concrete spiritual realities of life.
This week, let us reflect on the Beatitudes and pray for the grace of God to enlighten our minds to em-
brace the “Blessedness” of the Beatitudes and avoid the “Woes” of life. Through the guidance of the Holy
Spirit, in the Most Holy Name of Jesus, may we attain true happiness here on earth and enjoy the lasting joy
prepared for us in the Kingdom of Heaven.

Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time Jeremiah 17: 5-8
1 Corinthians 15: 12, 16-20, Luke 6: 17, 20-26
It’s time to choose sides. The selections from Jeremiah,
Psalms, and Luke each describe the favorable consequences
for the opposite group. Jeremiah distinguishes between those
who place their trust in God and those who place their trust in
others. In Luke’s Gospel, Jesus reassures those who are suf-
fering while warning those who are prospering. It is sobering.
Let Saint Paul’s proclamation of Christ’s resurrection be of
comfort to all of us.

Respect Life Committee
The New Jersey Assembly will vote on February 25th on
Bill A1504 which would legalize doctor assisted suicide.
The Senate Bill S1072 is in the committee review phase. Any form of suicide is against both natural law and God’s
Commandments. The Executive Director of the NJ Catholic
Conference feels voicing one’s opinion to their legislators is
more effective than people realize. Time is running short so
please contact your legislators as soon as possible before the
this bill becomes a law.
You can reach your Senator and
Assemblymen/women at:
For District: 7 (Mt. Laurel) Senator Troy Singleton at 856-234-2790 or
Assemblywomen Carol Murphy at 856-735-5334 or

Prayer for Respect of Life
Heavenly Father, the beauty and dignity of human life was the
crowning of your creation. You further ennobled that life when
your Son became one with us in his incarnation. Help us to
realize the sacredness of human life and to respect it from the
moment of conception until the last moment at death. Give us
courage to speak with truth and love and with conviction in
defense of life. Help us to extend the gentle hand of mercy and
forgiveness to those who do not reverence your gift of life. To
all, grant pardon for the times we have failed to be grateful for
your precious gift of life or to respect it in others. We ask this
in Jesus’ name. Amen.
