Everyone has worked hard on our final academic focuses and the assessments we’ve completed to demonstrate our growth and progress. In addition, we have enjoyed field trips, special activities related to positive reinforcement awards, park time, and graduations. All of these are special times associated with the conclusion of the school year, which is quickly approaching! It’s been a great time. All of our classes have now taken their field trips. Our trips to the Zoo, Prairie Rose, Derby Bowl and Hyde Park (also in Derby) were all very enjoyable. We had many parents who attended as parent supervisors. We greatly appreciated our parents’ participation and assistance. Parental help is critical to the success of our field trips, so we THANK YOU greatly for your involvement. Thankfully, the weather cooperated with us this year and everyone had a fabulous time! Our Early Childhood and Kdg. celebrations / graduations are in full swing. Many classes had their special events this week, while many more are scheduled for this upcoming week. The celebrations have taken place in the classrooms. Rocket Launch will have their special program in the evening on May 23rd (in the gym). We’ve had a lot of special guests attending. Thank you for joining us for these special celebrations! It’s hard to believe that next week is our final week of the 2016-2017 school year. We will conclude our great year with the End of the Year Assembly. This will take place on Thursday, 5/25 at 2:15p.m. We will join together in the gym that afternoon for our annual assembly time! We invite you to come and join us! It will be great! When your park time gets canceled due to rain, you have fun art stations instead! (First Grade Students)

FEE-BASED PRE-K4 PROGRAM We will be offering a Fee-Based “Rocket Launch” Pre-K Program for the 2017-2018 school year. This is a half-day program meeting Monday-Thursday (a.m. or p.m.) and begins August 2017. Parents who are interested in having their child participate in this fee-based program may complete a registration form found on the usd394.com webpage under ‘Parents’ and submit it to the Primary school office. The intent of the program is to provide instruction and learning experiences that will benefit the children in preparing them for Kindergarten by ensuring their development of key readiness skills and concepts; therefore, the process for identifying participants will include a screening procedure and consideration of readiness abilities. Cognitive, language, social, emotional, and physical areas of development will be addressed in the program. Transportation will NOT be provided for participating children. We believe that by offering the fee-based program we will be able to ensure school success for all early learners. Children who are at least four years old on or before August 31, 2017, may be considered for the fee-based Pre-K program. Enrollment is limited to 24 students at this time. Selections for participation in the program will be based upon those children demonstrating the most need for Pre-K experiences. Students demonstrating a delay in readiness skills, as identified through screening results and/or professional observations drawn from the screening and social experiences with other Pre-K candidates and staff, will be identified as priority participants. In the event interest exceeds the maximum number of slots available, a random lottery will be conducted to identify students who are demonstrating Pre-K readiness and typically developing skills in order to fill the classroom to capacity. In addition, resident students will be given first priority in filling open slots. Out of District students desiring participation may submit a registration form and an Out of District Waiver form (you can locate the ODW on the school web site, or you may contact the school office for the ODW document). Siblings of current ODW students will be given consideration prior to new ODW requests. Out of district students desiring participation in the program will be contacted regarding participation, in May, once space availability is determined. If you are interested in having your child participate in the fee-based Pre-K program, and feel he or she demonstrates a need for readiness enhancement in a pre-school setting, please complete a Registration Form and return it to the Primary Office. Mrs. Dassel or Mrs. Dalinghaus will be in contact with all patrons submitting a registration form in order to schedule a screening date. If you have any questions, please feel free to call the Rose Hill Primary School Office at 776-3340. We encourage you to share this information with parents of other four year olds (or five year olds who may not be attending Kdg. in August) who might benefit from this program. We’re looking forward to providing a quality preschool experience for our young students.

It’s Graduation

Time!

Congrats to our Kdg. Std. and

all other Grads.

SUMMER MAIL-IN ENROLLMENT PACKETS Enrollment financial packets will be sent home with your child on Friday, May 19th. Please take a look at the packet. The packet completes the enrollment process and contains the information needed for you to pay the textbook rental and other fees associated with your student's attendance at Rose Hill for the 2017-18 school year. Please be aware a discount of $20.00 per child for textbook rental fees will be honored for all payments received or postmarked by the date listed on the financial packet. Payments received or postmarked after that date will need to be made at the full rental price. If you have questions please call the Primary Office at 776-3340.

PARENTS OF KINDERGARTNERS FOR 2017-18 We would like to remind parents of next year’s kindergarten students that the paperwork you completed at Kindergarten Round-Up is for pre-enrollment purposes only. You still must complete enrollment information over the summer. You will receive a financial packet by mail. Your child’s enrollment papers must be on file and enrollment fees paid in order for enrollment to be complete for the 2017-18 school year

STATE PRE-KINDERGARTEN “ROCKET LAUNCH” PROGRAM FOR 2017-2018 We will be offering the State Pre-Kindergarten “Rocket Launch” program again for the 2017-2018 school year. This is a half-day program meeting Monday-Thursday and begins August 2017. Children must meet at least one qualifier to participate. Cognitive, language, social, emotional and physical areas of development will be addressed in the program. Transportation will be provided for participating children. We believe that by offering the program we can ensure school success for all children. Children who are four years old on or before August 31, 2017, and meet at least one of the following criteria may participate. Enrollment is limited to 24 students at this time and selections for participation in the program will be based upon those who show the most need for services. (Non-Discriminatory statement: Children who meet at least one of the criteria must be considered for placement in the program, and cannot be rejected solely because they have an IEP.) Criteria 1-7 meet eligibility for students who are currently on an IEP, and criteria 1-8 meet eligibility requirements for students who are at risk and do not have an IEP. The criteria for participation include: 1. Qualifies for the free or reduced lunch program (On or before September 20, 2017.) 2. Single Parent Families (At the time of enrollment the custodial parent is unmarried.) 3. SRS referral (The referral must describe the need for attendance and document the agent’s signature.) 4. Teen Parents (At least one parent was a teen when the child was born.) 5. Either parent is lacking a high school diploma or GED (At the time of enrollment, either parent lacks a high school diploma or GED.) 6. Child qualifies for migrant status (There must be a copy of the Certificate of Eligibility on file.) 7. Limited English Proficiency (LEP status must be documented.) 8. A delay in one of these areas: cognitive skills, language skills, fine/gross motor skills, self-help skills, or social development skills. (Based on a screening given by Mrs. Dassel.) *(Criterion 8 is NOT used to determine if children who have an IEP are also at-risk. Only criteria 1-7 are utilized as qualifiers for IEP students.) Please Note: Given that this is a specialized program, resident students meeting eligibility will be given first priority in filling open slots. Out of district students desiring participation may submit a criteria checklist/interest form and an Out of District Waiver form (please contact the school office for the ODW document). Out of district students meeting eligibility will be contacted regarding participation, in May, once space availability is determined. If you are interested in having your child participate in this program, and feel he or she meets at least one of these criteria, please complete the Criteria Checklist/Interest Form found on our website www.usd394.com under “forms” and return it to the Primary Office. If you have any questions, or would like to schedule a screening, please feel free to call the Rose Hill Primary School Office at 776-3340. We encourage you to share this information with parents of other four year olds who might benefit from this program. We’re looking forward to providing a quality preschool experience for our young students.
