proLINK22Flexible Output RF, restoring traditional Sky distribution
Distributing the analogue RF output of a Sky box from the main TV location to other roomsremains a popular solution for aerial installers. The new PROception proLINK22 modulator andremote control unit allows unrivalled flexibility for this application.

proMOD32RF modulator for domestic systemsDescription
The proMOD32 fills the gap left by the removal of RF modulators from many digital set-top-boxes,recorders and similar products. The unit allows continued use of the popular 'extension room' application, where the selectedprogramme output of one of more set-top devices is made available at a number of remote outlets, with the capability to allow remote control of the source equipment from the remote room(s). Theunit provides a modulated UHF analogue sound and vision signal, suitable for any TV with a UKanalogue tuner. (Remote TVs will require integral digital tuners or their own digital set-top boxes inorder to watch off-air digital broadcasts.)
Key Features
High quality sound and vision modulator – UK PAL standard video with mono FM audio (System I).Supports infrared remote control extension from remote rooms to most source equipment.Supports the new Sky I/O PORT interface – a simple single-lead connection to new-style Sky boxes(lead supplied).Loop-through SCART connections – allows single-SCART boxes to be used, retaining an output for alocal TV.Tamper-resistant output channel selection – covers UHF channels 21 – 60.Provides DC power for remote amplifier and IR 'eyes' (systems up to four ways) – replaces theSky RF2 power.LTE800-protected RF input.Ability to optimise the regenerated IR carrier frequency emitted by a blaster(30–40kHz range) to suit the appropriate equipment.
Connectivity and functionality in detail
Sky I/O PORTThis is a 10-pin mini-DIN connector as found on newer-style Sky boxes. A single lead connection carries audio andvideo to the modulator and hard-wired IR control commands in the return direction. This is similar to the previous'control-over-RF2' configuration. An IR blaster is not required for control of a Sky box.
Twin SCART connectorsSCART–IN is a second AV input for other set-top boxes, PVRs or DVD's (etc.) It can be used instead of, (or in additionto), the Sky I/O PORT.
TV–SCART is a fully-wired loop-through output intended for the local (usually the main) TV. The output carriesstereo audio, buffered composite video, RGB or component video (depending on input) and the switching &aspect ratio signal (Pin 8.) Use of this output is optional and an HDMI connection will often be used in preference.(Both SCARTs will be unused if a new-style Sky box is the only source equipment.)

AV Input selectionThe will automatically select the input if it detects a signal from the Sky box. This isproMOD32 SKY–I/Ooverridden by if the switching signal on Pin 8 of SCART 1 is activated.SCART–INSimilarly if the input is active it will be overridden if the Sky box is brought out of standby. This meansSCART–INthe most recently activated source determines which input feeds the modulator. (NB the feed to TV–SCARTalways comes from . The Sky box has its own SCART and HDMI outputs.)SCART–INIf neither input has been selected since power-up, the modulator outputs a simple test pattern (similar to a VCR) toaid receiver tuning.
RF ports
RF–IN (IEC female, DC-blocked): LTE-filtered input for upstream signals, usually the TV aerial (looped throughother equipment where relevant.) Use of this input is optional and it can be left disconnected when not inuse.
RF–OUT ('F' connector) carries the inputs at RF–IN (if any) plus the modulated output. RF–OUT will beconnected to a remote point, or to multiple points via a suitable amplifier (e.g. PROception proAMP104X orproAMP310X.)
RF–OUT carries 9 V DC power for an amplifier up to 4-way and associated IR 'eyes'. Systems of more thanfour ways require separately powered amplifiers. The maximum current that can be drawn from this output is75 mA. The DC source is short-circuit proof.
The loop-through path (RF–IN to RF–OUT) passes 87.5 – 790 MHz with approximately 1.5 dB gain. (NB thereis no RF return path to RF–IN.)
Output signal distribution and remote control
Output distribution options
Direct feed to a single remote point.Up to four-remote-point system using a PROception proAMP104X amplifier. No additional power supply isnecessary. NB this amplifier supports UHF distribution only.Up to ten-remote-point system with VHF capability using a PROception proAMP310X amplifier.A proPSA123 or proPSU112X power unit is required to power the 10-way amplifier.proAMP-R series mains powered return path amplifiers may also be used. The use of passive splitters on the modulator output is not recommended since this complicates thepowering arrangements.

Infrared accessories
The PROception proSAT1EYE Mk 3 IR receiver eye is recommended foruse in the remote rooms. (Available separately). Similar products mayalso work, but are not guaranteed to be compatible in all cases.
A new-style Sky box connected via the Sky I/O PORT receives its IRcommands over the wire and does not require an IR blaster.(Sky feature connector lead supplied). The proMOD32 system will also provide control for a wide range ofother equipment, using an IR blaster device (IR re-emitter). A suitableaccessory, the proMOD32-IRBLAST simply plugs into the IR-OUT portprovided. (Available separately). 'Blaster control' should work with anyequipment using a remote control system with an IR carrier frequencyin the range 36 to 38 kHz – i.e. most implementations of the RC5, RC6and NEC protocols. Compatibility with any specific equipment is notguaranteed.Cable TV boxes: older cable boxes using IrdDA (manufactured byPace) are not compatible. Newer Virgin V+ boxes (manufactured bySamsung) are reported to be compatible.Bang and Olufsen 'Beolink' equipment is also known to beincompatible.

Application examples
Fig. 1 shows the basic application with a Sky receiver or PVR without RF-2 capability. The example assumes that the main TV is fed only from the Sky receiver. The modulator is linked using the SkyI/O cable and the RF loop-through provides off-air terrestrial signals (Freeview) for use in the remote location(typically a bedroom). The proSAT1EYE infrared 'eye' allows the Sky box to be controlled from this location. AnIR blaster is not required in this case.Fig. 2 is similar to the Sky system above, with the addition of a 4-way amplifier and additional IR eyes to permitcontrol from any room. The system in is based around a twin-tuner terrestrial PVR with HDMI connection to the TV display. OffFig. 3air signals are looped through the PVR and the modulator to the remote room. Since this is a non-Skyapplication an infrared blaster is required to relay commands to the remote room. An amplifier can be addedto this system, as in Fig. 2Fig.4 shows the use of both AV inputs, SCART-IN being fed from an older type of DVD player with SCARToutput. It also shows how a diplexed VHF & UHF aerial feed can be passed through the modulator to providea radio feed in the remote room.
