Small Schools Soccer Knockout Competition Our Blakebrook soccer team travelled to Murwillumbah on Wednesday this week, to play rounds 2 and 3 of the state wide knockout competition. In the first game we played Dungay PS and won 5-0. In the second game we played The Pocket PS and won 10-0. Fantastic effort team! We are through to the next round :) 2020 Year 7 Richmond River HS visit Tomorrow the year advisor from Richmond River High will visit our Year 6 students to talk about high school and the wonderful programs being offered throughout the Rivers College. This will commence at 2:10pm. Adventure Playground Equipment Our Adventure playground has had a makeover. Daniel Gray , his sister Melissa, and Mr Hayes replaced the rotting timber surrounds and installed concrete blocks to retain the soft fall which makes our equipment safe should a child slip and fall. The P&C will now organise to replenish the bark chips making it even safer for our students. The school offers a huge thankyou to Daniel, Melissa and Mr Hayes. Father’s Day Stall Our P&C will be holding the annual Father’s Day stall on Friday 30 September. Gifts are $5 each. Please bring in money next week if you wish to purchase a gift. Thank you to the P&C for coordinating this event. Northern Rivers Zone Athletics Today we had numerous students compete at the Northern Rivers PSSA athletics championships in South Lismore. They were competing against the best athletes from 67 other schools. I will post their results in next week’s Bulletin. A huge thankyou to the P&C, volunteers and Rotary Club volunteers for coordinating the canteen at the athletics. It is a huge day but a tremendous fundraiser for our school. We truly appreciate your hard work dedication and commitment to our school. Thank you. Blakebrook Musical and Lismore Performing Arts Festival (LPAF) Our school musical is starting to come together. Students have their parts and have been rehearsing lines and practising the singing of songs. A detailed note was sent home with loads more info. Please keep abreast of developments as we move closer to performance day. A reminder to send in the EOI for the dinner and show option, deadline as well as the $5 fee for the musical. Thank you. A permission note has gone home today for the Matinee performance of LPAF. The whole school will be travelling by bus to the Lismore Workers Club on Thursday 5th September. The school is fully subsidising the cost of the bus. School Sport Australia Soccer Championships I will be absent from school next week as I will be attending the School Sport Australia Football Championships in Canberra. I am privileged to have been selected to coach the NSW boy’s side at the championships against the other states and territories. It will be a fantastic opportunity and experience for me. I will still have access to emails and be in contact with the school regularly. SASS Appreciation Week (School Administrative Support Staff) Next week we celebrate SASS Appreciation week. SASS refers to all our wonderful non-teaching staff in the office, classrooms and grounds. We are indeed fortunate to have a dedicated staff who work tirelessly for the students of our school. On behalf of the school, we say thank you for everything you do. If you see one of our non-teaching staff, consider saying a nice thank you. I’m sure they’d enjoy and appreciate it. Thank you Wendy, Sandra, Sonia, Tom, Vera, Lochie and Chelsea. 2020 Kindergarten Enrolments We are currently taking enrolments for 2020 Kindergarten. If you have a child who is coming to Blakebrook next year, please *contact Wendy to arrange an interview with the Principal and to collect enrolment forms and other information. If you know of a family with a child ready for ‘Big’ school in the local community, encourage them to contact the school for an appointment to discuss enrolment or to have a look at our wonderful school. Preferred *contact is via email: [email protected] Have a great week - Allan Duroux

NSW Health: Meningococcal Awareness Meningococcal disease is a bacterial infection that can lead to serious illness if not recognised & treated in time. While anyone can contract meningococcal disease, infection rates are higher in children aged 0-4 years and young people aged 15 - 24 years.

Do you know the symptoms of Meningococcal disease? Symptoms include: * Sudden onset of fever *Headache * Neck stiffness * Joint pain * Dislike of bright lights * Nausea * Vomiting * Irritability * Rash of red-purple spots or bruises that doesn't disappear when pressure is applied. (A rash does not always appear or it may occur late in the dis-ease).

Some or all of these symptoms may appear and can mimic other common illnesses. Symptoms usually occur suddenly and can get worse quickly, so it's important to seek urgent medical treatment. Vaccination is the best way to prevent the spread.

Act fast and seek medical advice quickly.
