A real estate agent is a person who has taken the necessary classes, passed a state licensing test, and is legally able to practice the sale of property in that state. All real estate agents have mandatory continuing education every two years in order to keep their license active.

As a REALTOR®, we must abide by a strict Code of Ethics in addition to the con-tinuing education requirements. This Code sets a high standard for the services we provide to the consumer in terms of acting fairly, ethically, and honestly in all of our real estate dealings. REALTORS® also belong to their local, state and national associa-tions. All three provide professional development, legislative and community outreach among many other things.

The National Association of REALTORS® is the largest trade association in the country with over one million members. One of the main missions of REALTOR® Associations is to protect personal property rights for citizens. REALTORS® lobby on all three levels for this mission.
