What is the BlackBerry Certication Program?

The BlackBerry Certication Program is an industry standard in excellence that is designed to validate you

level o skill and knowledge o specic BlackBerry products and services. BlackBerry certication will help

to set you apart in the competitive world o mobile devices and applications.

Overview o the BlackBerry Certication Program

The BlackBerry Certication Program is designed to enhance your proessional credibility by providing

quantiable proo o skills and knowledge.

The BlackBerry Certication Program exams are role-based and ocus on the practical application o Black-

Berry solution knowledge required by specic roles. These roles align with the stages in the deployment o

BlackBerry solutions. Currently, BlackBerry certication will be available or the ollowing roles:

in contact centers or help desk environments that provide support or BlackBerry devices in a BlackBerry

Enterprise Server or BlackBerry Internet Service environment.

BlackBerry Certied Support Specialist candidates will be required to pass one exam related to supporting

BlackBerry devices in a BlackBerry Internet Service or BlackBerry Enterprise Server environment.

I a candidate successully completes the exam Supporting BlackBerry Devices in an Enterprise Environ-

ment, they may also pursue a BlackBerry Certied Server Support Specialist designation.

Candidates who successully complete an exam or this certication will receive a BlackBerry Certied Sup-

port Specialist designation.

BlackBerry Certied Server Support Specialist

This certication stream is designed to validate the skills and knowledge o technical proessionals whowork in contact centers or help desk environments that provide introductory to mid-level support or the

BlackBerry MVS Certied Integration Specialist

The BlackBerry MVS Certied Integration Specialist certication is designed or technical proessionals re-sponsible or ully implementing the BlackBerry MVS solution in a single site/single cluster environment.

Candidates are required to pass an exam related to BlackBerry MVS Integration.

Candidates who successully complete the exam or this certication will obtain a BlackBerry MVS Certied

Integration Specialist designation.

What does BlackBerry certication mean to me?

A candidate who has passed an exam or one or more roles in the BlackBerry Certication Program has

demonstrated prociency with one or more BlackBerry products or solutions in a specic role. To receive

accreditation in the BlackBerry Certication Program, you must pass one or more product-related, task-

oriented prociency exams.

Exam security

Ensuring the integrity o BlackBerry Certication Program material is vital to maintain the value o the cre-

dentials youve earned. Exam results will be monitored regularly or any abnormalities. I an abnormality is

ound in a candidates results, regardless o the reason, an investigation will be conducted that may result in

the candidates certication status being removed.

Abnormal results may lead to one or more o the ollowing:

Invalidationofscoresand/orcandidateswillbeaskedtoretest,possiblyattheirownexpense

Changetopass/failstatusorretestrequested

Revocationofanyachievedcertications(includingpreviousexamsthatarenottheviolatingexam

How do I register or a BlackBerry certication exam?

1. Visit www.blackberry.com/certication and research the certication stream that you are interested in.

a. Read the BlackBerry Certication Program Guide.

b. Read the exam guide or the exam you are interested in.

c. Review the exam objectives in the exam guide.

For each objective, evaluate your own knowledge. I you eel condent perorming an objective, you shouldnot need training. I you nd an objective(s) that you are not condent in perorming, you may want to pur

sue urther preparation in this area. This will allow you to customize your study time to t your requirements

2. Once you have chosen the appropriate certication stream, click Schedule an exam now at www.black

berry.com/certication or visit www.prometric.com/blackberry. I you register through the www.blackberry

com/certication website, you will be redirected to the Prometric website.

Note: Prometric is the test delivery provider o all BlackBerry certication exams.

3. Using Prometrics web site, you can select a date and time to write your exam. (You may also register over

the phone or in person at a test service providers location).

Note: A BlackBerry Certication Program ID (BCPID) will be assigned to you ater you have attempted

your rst exam and your account will be created in the BlackBerry Certication credential management

system. The BCPID will be used by BlackBerry Certication Program administrators.

Caution: Please note, while BlackBerry certication exams are available at most Prometric testing cen-

ters globally, you may not attempt an exam at a testing center where you have been employed or under

contract within 30 days o your test date without permission rom the BlackBerry Certication Program

Writing a BlackBerry certication exam

1. You should arrive at the testing center 15 minutes beore your scheduled time. You will be required to

provide 2 pieces o identication. At least one should be a valid photo ID.

Note: The primary ID must have a permanently axed photograph and a signature and must be valid (not

expired). An ID must be an original document and not a photocopy or a ax.

AprimaryIDmusthaveapermanentlyaxedphotoofthecandidate,alongwiththecandidates

signature.

AsecondaryIDmusthavethecandidatessignature.

Identicationisconsideredtobevalid(non-expired)aslongasitdoesnothaveanexpirationdate

that has passed.

Valid photo IDs

The ollowing are acceptable orms o identication:

Note: A credit card can be used as a primary orm o ID only i it displays both a photo and a signature

and is not expired. Any credit card can be used as a secondary orm o ID as long as it displays a signature

and is not expired.

2. You will be asked to store any personal items in a designated secure area outside o the testing room.

3. You will be asked to read the Test Regulation Form and sign i you agree to it. Any violations to the Test

Regulation Form may result in your test being oreited without reund, and the potential to be permanently

decertied rom the program and ineligible or any urther certication.

4. You will attempt the exam. For more inormation on what to expect while writing the exam, please reerto What to expect while writing a BlackBerry certication exam on page 24.

AtthebeginningoftheexamyouwillbeaskedtoreadandagreetotheBlackBerryCerticationPro-

gram Candidate Agreement.

5. Once you complete the exam, you may be given a score report letting you know i you have passed o

ailed.

a. I the certication stream only requires one exam, and you pass, or i you have passed the last exam

required or your certication stream, you will become either BlackBerry Certied or BlackBerry

Expert, depending on which exam you have written.

b. I the certication stream requires that you pass more than one exam, and you pass, you will receive

credit or the exam. You will then need to register and pass the other exam(s) in order to become

BlackBerry Certied or BlackBerry Expert.

c. I you do not pass, you will be provided with study inormation. You should also review the BlackBerry

certication retake policy. For more inormation, please reer to Exam Retake Policy on page 16.

6. Your exam results will be imported into the BlackBerry Certication credential management system.

Obtaining your exam results

You may receive a score report immediately ater taking an exam. I you write a beta exam, score reports wil

be sent to you ollowing analysis and scoring o the beta exam (approximately 12-14 weeks).

I you do not pass the exam, your score report may include eedback that will allow you to ocus your studying

beore attempting the exam again. I you are interested in taking a BlackBerry Training course, please ree

to How do I get training? on page 11.

Note: It is recommended that you keep copies o score reports or your records.

Viewing your certication results

Upon completion o your rst exam, you will receive an email message with the inormation needed to acti-

vate your account and view your BlackBerry certication prole, history, and status. The BlackBerry Certi

cation credential manager can be accessed at www.blackberry.com/mycert.

Results are generally imported within 72 hours o exam completion, however in some cases it may take upto one week beore results are accessible through the credential manager.

Once your results have been posted to the credential manager, you will be able to monitor your progress

toward the completion o all BlackBerry Certication Programs.

What to expect while writing a BlackBerry certication exam

All exams are closed-book exams; you are not allowed to bring books or any other materials into the testing

room. The test center will provide you with an erasable noteboard and marker or use during the exam, bu

you must return these materials to the Prometric test center administrator at the end o your exam in order

to receive your score report.

On the day o your exam, make sure that you arrive at the test center 15 minutes early. When you arrive, the

test center will inorm you o how much time you should expect to spend to complete all steps necessary o

testing.

Note: I you arrive more than 15 minutes ater the scheduled appointment time, you will not be allowed

to write the exam and you will not receive a reund.

I you do not show up to write a scheduled exam, you will not receive a reund.

Beore taking the exam, you will be required to show two orms o identication.

Live exams (not beta) are computer-delivered, consisting o 60-70 multiple-choice questions. You will have

90 minutes to complete the exam. Printed results will be given to you at the testing center

immediately ater you complete the exam. For more inormation on beta exams, please reer to Beta ex-

ams on page 17.

Currently, BlackBerry certication exams are only available in English.

There will be no reunds given in the ollowing situations:

What to expect i you pass a BlackBerry certication exam

When you pass an exam, the testing center will send your name and results to BlackBerry Certication Pro-

gram administrators. Your test results are entered into the BlackBerry Certication credential management

database. A unique BlackBerry Certication Program ID (BCPID) is created or rst time candidates, and

test results are linked to the prole and previous exam results.

Once you have completed all certication requirements (including multiple exams i required), you will be

provided with instructions on how to retrieve and download a ree electronic copy o your certicate. You

will also have the option o requesting a paper copy o your certicate, at a cost to be borne by you. Should

you choose a paper certicate, it will be processed and shipped via postal mail to the address provided in

your prole, and should arrive in eight to ten weeks. You will also be given access to a logo representing you

certication achievement via the BlackBerry Certication credential manager. Guidelines or the usage o

BlackBerry Certication Program logos will also be provided.

Note: It is important that your prole inormation in the BlackBerry Certication credential manager is

kept up to date to ensure prompt delivery o your welcome package.

Your name will also be added to our BlackBerry Certication Program mailing list to receive special an-

nouncements and inormation throughout the year.

What happens i you ail a BlackBerry certication exam

I you ail an exam, or are asked to rewrite it, you will be required to wait a certain amount o time beore at-

tempting it again. Please see the Exam Retake Policy on page 16.

Review the objectives in the exam guide again and consider taking training as needed based on your com-ort level with all the objectives.

Exam Retake Policy

The ollowing wait periods will be enorced when attempting an exam:

Ater the rst attempt Minimum 5 days

Ater the second attempt Minimum 14 days

Note: The wait period starts the day o the last unsuccessul attempt.

I you write and pass an exam beore the wait period is over, the certication will be considered invalid and

you will need to rewrite the exam once the wait period has ended. This will be at your own expense.

Each exam can be attempted a maximum o 3 times in a 3 month period. For example, assume your rs

attempt is on February 1, your second attempt on February 20, and your third on March 30. I you need to

attempt the exam again, the earliest you would be able to do so would be May 1, ater the rst attempt drops

out o the 3 months period.

Once you have passed an exam, you cannot retake the same exam unless the exam objectives change.

Iftheobjectivesforanexamchange,theexamnumberwillalsochange

Candidates will only be allowed one attempt at beta exams.

Why is there a retake policy?

There are several reasons why an exam retake policy has been implemented or the BlackBerry Certication

Program.

Within the certication industry it is common to implement a waiting period between retakes. Wait periods

help ensure that the certication the candidate is working towards remains as valuable as possible.

The wait period assists with security and integrity and helps to provide a consistent basis or measuring the

skills and abilities o candidates. Waiting or a period o time helps to demonstrate that the candidate truly

understands the job tasks being veried.

The wait time also allows candidates to review areas where they received low scores.

Beta exams

RIM ofers beta versions o some o its exams as new and updated questions are developed. Beta exams

provide you an opportunity to attempt a new exam beore it is released to the general public. A beta exam

will consist o up to 300 questions to be completed over 4 hours.

BlackBerry certication beta exams will be available by invitation only and candidates will be asked to an-

swer all o the questions that may be used in the nal exam. Beta exams may not be available in all regions

I beta candidates pass a beta exam, they will receive credit or the exam towards the related certication

(I the designation requires more than one exam, candidates will be required to pass both beore receiving

their designation). It may take some time to receive the results in some cases; depending on how long the

exam stays in beta.

Violating test center rules

Keeping exams secure is extremely important. Security measures help to ensure that the value and integrity

o the exams are upheld.

I a candidate violates test center rules, the candidate is permanently ineligible or any BlackBerry certica-

tion. The exam that the candidate attempted will be discarded and the candidate will not receive a reund

or the exam ee. Test center personnel are authorized to take immediate and appropriate measures agains

candidates who are caught violating test center rules.

Candidates will be required to review and sign the Test Center Regulation orm at the test center prior to

beginning the exam.

I you suspect that someone has violated test center rules during an exam, please notiy the test center AND

contact the BlackBerry Certication Program team at [email protected].

Ater the exam

Exam retirement vs. exam expiry

When an exam is retired, the BlackBerry certication remains valid but the exam is no longer available to be

written.

When an exam expires, the BlackBerry certication expires as well and is no longer valid. In general, exam

and credential expiry usually occur approximately 6 months ater the exam retirement.

Your BlackBerry Certication Program status can be monitored through the BlackBerry Certication cre-

dential manager, including expiry dates and certication maintenance requirements. Prior to your certica-

tion expiry, you will receive an email notication with the steps you need to take to maintain your certication

status.

The goal o the BlackBerry Certication Program is to have a minimum exam lie o 12 months and to cre-

ate or update exams around major product versions. Each updated exam only afects those existing Black-

Berry Certied Proessionals who were certied under the old exam and any other candidate who wishes to

be certied or the particular certication role subject to the updated exam.

The retirement periods or an exam will be dependant on new product release schedules and old product

EOL (end o lie) schedules. As a result, some exams may co-exist. When the exam retirement timerames

are established they will be communicated to candidates on our website at www.blackberry.com/retire-ment.

Ater an exam is retired and no longer available, all new candidates as well as existing BlackBerry Certied

proessionals wanting to maintain their certication will be required to take the updated exam.

I you are an existing BlackBerry certied proessional and the updated exam is not successully completed

within the retirement period, your certication will lapse.

Note: For the purposes o the BlackBerry Certication Program, a product is considered to be discontin-

ued when RIM does not release any urther service packs or hotxes or that product.

Managing your Certication

The BlackBerry Certication credential manager allows you to track and manage your BlackBerry Certica-

tion Program prole and status.

Using the BlackBerry Certication credential manager you can:

Upon completion o your rst exam, your results will be imported into the credential manager and you wil

receive an email message outlining how to activate your account and veriy your results. You will also be as-

signed a BCPID that will be your unique identier within the BlackBerry Certication Program and should be

reerenced in all correspondence with the BlackBerry Certication Program team.

Through the BlackBerry Certication credential manager, you will be able to monitor your ull exam history

your certication status and certication expiry dates. The BlackBerry Certication credential manager can

be accessed at www.blackberry.com/mycert.

Once a certication has been achieved, the credential manager will trigger the processing o your welcome

package. As your prole inormation will be used to distribute your welcome package, it is important that this

inormation is kept current. Access to BlackBerry Certication Program logos or the certications achieved

and guidelines or their usage will also be made available or candidate use through the BlackBerry Certi-

cation credential manager.

In addition to allowing candidates to manage and monitor their BlackBerry Certication Program prole and

results, the credential manager can, with candidate agreement and permissions, acilitate the verication

o BlackBerry Certication credentials to third parties through the Publish Credential and Credential Veri-

cation eatures. For more details on these eatures, please log into the BlackBerry Certication credentia
