The fiber driver is a transitional device used to transmit light from a solid core to stranded fibers. It allows a multitude of stranded points to be lit by a single solid core fiber. By using solid core fiber to travel the majority of the distance to the output point, illuminators can be kept in convenient locations and overall distances can be increased.

The diameter of the fiber, length, and intensity of the light source impact the quality of light at the fixture end.

Ambient LightFiber optics are most effective in spaces with low ambient light levels. Certain colours will illuminate brighter than others depending on the environment. Run LengthsLong runs should be well-designed with strategically positioned fixtures. Intensity of fiber optic illumination diminishes over longer runs. Add buffer lengths to allow bends and flexibility to adjust slack.

BendsOptical fiber channels are easily shaped to their environments, making them one of the most versatile fixture placements. However, excessive bending of the fiber may compromise its performance. The minimum bend diameter is 8x the fiber diameter.
