Dear Parents International Week is here and there have been lots of interesting events so far in classes. In Secondary, each mentor group have been considering the prob- lems and issues in a range of countries such as Syria and Yemen each morning during mentor time. In Pri- mary a more in-depth study of a country is taking place throughout the week with classes looking at countries such as Kenya and Brazil. Thursday evening sees our International Evening event which we hope you will all be able to attend. This is always an exciting evening at BIST filled with co- lour, music and the aroma of different national dish- es. Doors open at 4.30pm (or 3.30pm for stallholders) and the entertainment on stage will commence with all our children and staff participating in the flag pa- rade. This is followed by a packed programme of mu- sic and dance on the main stage. There will be prizes for the best national costume at boy, girl, adult male and adult female categories; and for country stalls in the most attractive, most informative and best food item categories. Our judges for these will be Mr. Mill- er and Ms. Joanne (national costumes), Ms. Alex and Ms. Tumika (most attractive stall), Mr. Graham and Mr. Pemberton (most informative stall) and best food item (Chef Gia and Mr. Priest). This Friday the Primary students will be celebrat- ing Tbilisoba. Parents are asked to send in fruits and vegetables for the harvest displays. Parents are wel- come to tour the different class Tbilisoba displays from 2.25pm. As part of Tbilisoba, we are also sup- porting one of our community partners, Caritas and the SOS Children’s Village. We are collecting pack- aged foodstuffs for Caritas’ food kitchen which as- sists thousands of elderly people throughout Geor- gia. On Friday, children can choose to wear autumnal coloured clothes (browns, reds, oranges, etc…) rath- er than school uniform for a 5 lari donation towards buying school supplies for SOS children. On Thursday the Year 6 students paid a special visit to a special place - the Kartli Wind Farm near Gori as part of the IPC Climate Control unit of study. The wind farm is the first of its kind in Georgia and on the

cutting edge of providing clean, renewable energy in Georgia. Our students got to see up close how the wind turbines convert abundant wind supplies into useful electricity.

The Kartli Wind Farm team gave our students a guid-ed tour of the facility and a treasure trove of useful information about the wind farm, its current work and its future plans.

Immediately following the trip the students enjoyed a tasty Georgian lunch at Salobie Restaurant in Mtskheta.

CARREFOUR TRIPThis trip was designed to expose the chil-dren to all kinds of fruits and vegetables as we have been talking about them in our IPC classes. Each child took it in turns to weigh the customers’ fruits and vegetables at the weighing point. They then went to look at the fresh fish and those swimming in the tanks be-fore going to the bakery section. They then got the chance to roll croissant dough. We brought the croissants back to school where our cooks baked them for our afternoon snack. They were delicious.
