This is my last newsletter of my presidency. The newly elect-ed officers for the 2020-2021 ASPE year take over come July 1. I want to thank all of those that have been on the board with myself for the last 2 years. Even though the posi-tions do not take a lot of effort on each of your parts, without the effort that you each contributed, we would be lacking in one area or another. I thank you each for everything you have done and contributed not only over the last couple years of my presidency, but for all of the years you have

been on the board in one position or another.

Those individuals that will be on the 2020-2021 board in-

clude the following:

President: Diane Wingard VP-Technical: Chase Freeman VP Legislative: Jonathan Kennen VP Membership: Dale Peterson Treasurer: Melissa Green Secretary: Chris Farr AYP (ASPE Young Professionals): Drew Williamson Education Chair: Edwin Gonzalez Newsletter Editor: Rob Lowell Affiliate Liaison: Jorge Megias WOA (Women of ASPE): Cristina Salido Webmaster: Drew Williamson

As we are not yet able to meet in a group setting, our June meeting will once again be over the internet. You can once again attend the ASPE meeting in your pajamas, swimsuit, or even full camouflage. Please continue to practice social

distancing to help prevent the spread of disease.

This month, our meeting will NOT be the 4th Tuesday of the month, but rather on Thursday June 25th at noon. The meet-ing will be hosted through the ASPE society in which by the society hosting it, rather than the local chapter or the pre-senter, it gives the opportunity to much easier be awarded the CEUs for your attendance. The link will be provided in a

forth coming email.

The June 25th meeting will be presented by Dann Holmes, with NSF Health Sciences, LLC, and the ASPE Region 2

Affiliation Liaison. He will be presenting on many aspects related to the hazardous conditions of low, or no flow water

issues in buildings and municipal water supplies.

In mid-September, ASPE will be hosting the bi-annual Con-vention and Exposition in New Orleans. This is the largest gathering of plumbing professionals and manufacturers all in one location. Not only will you get to see all of the products you specify, but also those new to the industry. Additionally, you will be able to sit through a series of technical classes to increase your knowledge from that of the basics to plenty of advanced topics. Both registration and the hotel accommo-dations are now indeed open. For more information please visit: https://expo.aspe.org/

Are you familiar with Read, Learn, & Earn? ASPE has this program that not only helps you learn on one topic or anoth-er, but in doing so, you can also gather CEUs. This program is FREE to ASPE members. Currently there are 13 different ones available covering topics such as Cost Estimation, Hot Water Circulation, and Backflow. After you read the literature on each subject, there is a short quiz, and once you pass, you obtain your CEUs. More information on this can be found here: https://education.aspe.org/RLE Have you participated in any webinar recently? This is a fan-tastic way to ‘social distance’ yourself while still learning. ASPE has many webinars available to watch at your leisure again with a wide range of topics from Steam systems to the history of cast iron to FP design. These can be found here:

https://education.aspe.org/on-demand-webinars

As a reminder, ASPE typically takes the months of July and

August off for the summer. During that time the board will

meet to start to plan the upcoming year. If you are interested

in being a speaker, or have an idea for a topic, please con-

tact Chase (VP-Technical) and he will be able to get you or a

speaker on that topic scheduled. So, for now, stay safe and

healthy everyone. Hopefully this will have all blown over and

we can once again gather come September.

Hello fellow plumbing design professionals. We hope you are staying safe and healthy. During these difficult times we join our members in knowing that our country will make it through this period. We look forward to things opening up, in a safe manner, in the coming days as we work to getting back to normal. At this point we are sad to announce that due to the so-cial distancing mandate we will continue to have a virtu-al meeting this month. We hope to return to in person meetings after the summer break. find the answer to something you need help within your de-signs. Check it out. Read Learn Earn During this time the authorities and some employers have asked many of us have to stay home, when possible work from home, avoid crowded places and contact with others. We all need to work and provide for our families, but some-times it is situations like this that can give us an opportunity to turn a negative into a positive. If you are working from home, get your work done, but also take advantage of the situation, log on to the ASPE Education complete a few of the Read Learn Earn courses available and catch up with the required CEUs for your CPD recertification. Think about it this way, if you travel half hour to and from work each day, that is five hours a week that you can spend working on earning some CEUs. Then when the COVID-19 is over you can concentrate on getting back to work knowing you don’t

have to worry about your CEUs .

Not much has changed since our last newsletter… Still dealing with COVID-19 with just a fewer restrictions. To make matters worse other issues have surfaced, issues that have cast an even darker cloud over us… I guess when it rains it pours… I hope that we can weather this

in a way that will make us stronger in the end.

Most of us continue to work remotely. I would request on behalf of my fellow affiliates that you communicate your firm’s preferences regarding visits, L&L and other activities… we all want to do our part to keep everyone

safe.

Our chapter as with other chapters has been offering virtual meetings… they have served to keep our mem-bership informed, especially when dealing with re-opening of facilities that have been out of commission for weeks or even months. Be sure to follow recom-mendations by ASHRAE, CDC and others regarding re-starting plumbing systems especially potable water ser-

vices.

At the risk of repeating myself… we for the most part must continue doing business under the current condi-

tions. These were my recent suggestions:

• Keep reaching out by phone and/or text… to help

build and/or maintain relationships.

• Take part of Webinars and other virtual sessions

offering product and systems information.

• Keep Chase Freeman our VP Technical updated with any valuable industry information such as:

code info, standards info, etc.

• We affiliates can continue to offer virtual Lunch & Learns and other technical training… we can be creative in sending out to Grub Hub cards or other gift cards that would allow us to remotely provide

lunch for our attendees

Affiliate Liaison’s Report—By Jorge Megias Email: [email protected]

Let us hope we can come together again when we kick

off our meetings in a few months… we all look forward

to the comradery and social interaction that our chapter

has always offered us. Until then let us stay positive,

healthy and safe.

STAY HEALTHY MY FRIENDS!

Jorge
