Snow Hill native Janeen Birckhead-Morton received her Briga- dier General stars for her promotion to Commander of Maryland Army Na- tional Guard 29th Assistant Adjutant General in Annapolis on July 14, 2018. The Change of Command ceremony was held June 2, 2018 at the 5th Regi- ment Armory in Baltimore. Maj. Gen. Linda L. Singh, 29th Adjutant General of the Maryland National Guard, presided over both ceremonies. Janeen was joined at both ceremonies by her husband, Craig Morton of Salisbury, mother Fannie Birckhead of Snow Hill, and two chil- dren. She is no stranger to accomplish- ments. Her mother was the first Black Judge of the Orphans Court in Worcester County, chair of the board at SHORE UP!, Inc. and a town coun- cil member who acted as an interim Mayor for a while. District 37A State Delegate Sheree Sample-Hughes won the Democratic nomina- tion over Hurlock Town Council Presi- dent Bishop Charles Cephas. She will face Republican challenger Cambridge City Coun- cilman Frank Cooke who was unopposed in the Republican Primary. Community activist Kirkland J. Hall Sr. was the only candidate in the Demo- cratic Primaries and will face incumbent Republican District 38A State Delegate Charles J. Otto in the November General Elections for that seat in the State House of Dele- gates. Also in Somerset County, Princess Anne Town Commissioner Lionel Frederick and Past NAACP Branch president Ken Bal- lard were the only Democratic candi- dates for Clerk of the Circuit Court and Dis- trict 4 representative to the County Commission. Frederick will face incumbent Clerk Charles Homer who won his Republican Pri- mary over Jordan Monk. Ballard will face former County Commissioner Charles Laird who won his Republican Primary handily over Eddie Brimer. Incumbent Talbot County Council- man Corey W. Pack received the 2d highest number of votes in the Republican Primaries to make him one of the five Republican Candi- dates to face five Dem- ocrats for the five seats on the Coun- cil.
