The company’s new Smart Path, unveiled at the Passenger Terminal EXPO, sees passenger’s biomet- ric details captured through a fa- cial scan at the first touch point in the journey, which is then checked against the passenger’s travel docu- ments (such as a passport), and a ‘secure single token’ is created. “Then, at each step of the journey— from check-in, to aircraft boarding or border control—passengers gain access simply with a facial scan and without having to show their pass- port or boarding pass,” says SITA. The Smart Path is in reach of pas- sengers today, as it can be easily integrated into existing airport in- frastructure and airline systems, as well as government systems and databases, says SITA. The company says it is working with a number of major airlines and airports to integrate biometrics and expects that by 2020 biometrics will be the norm at airports across the world. . . . Aviation service issues such as flight problems, baggage, reser-vation and ticketing, refunds, customer service, disability and discrimination has seen the num-ber of airline consumer com-plaints rose 29.8% from 2014 to 2015.The US Department of Transpor-tation received 20,170 complaints last year, according to its Air Trav-el Consumer Report. In Dec 2015 alone, the department received 1565 complaints about airline service, up 46.9% from the total of 1065 filed in Dec 2014 and up 19.6% from the 1308 received in Nov 2015. The consumer report also includes data on on-time performance, can-cellations, tarmac delays, chroni-cally delayed flights and the causes of flight delays. For the full year of 2015, the reporting carriers posted an on-time arrival rate of 79.9%, up from 76.2% in 2014; while 1.5% of scheduled domestic flights were cancelled during 2015, an improve-ment on the 2.2% cancellation rate in 2014. Also interesting to note is that in 2015, there were 61 domestic flights with tarmac delays longer than three hours and 15 international flights with tarmac delays longer than four hours at US airports; while

the causes of flight delays included aviation system delays, late-arriving aircraft, maintenance and crew prob-lems, extreme weather and security reasons, just to name a few.The report also showed that during 2015, the carriers posted a mishan-dled baggage rate of 3.24 per 1000 passengers, down from 2014’s rate of 3.61; and that there were 35 animal deaths, injuries to 25 other animals and three lost animals, for a total of 63 incidents involving animals while travelling by air, up from 45 in 2014. Meanwhile, the department received 939 disability complaints, up 19.8% from the previous year; and 65 dis-crimination complaints, down 4.4% from the previous year.

Disneyland is launching its own Star Wars themed universe but it’s not the only place Star Wars fans can get their fix in California, says the state’s tourism office. At LEGOLAND, there’s a Star Wars area of the theme park’s Miniland with attractions like the scale model of the Death Star, a Jawa sandcrawler on Tatooine and an underwater Opee sea killer on Naboo.A ranch in Sonoma County is home to the world’s largest private collection of Star Wars memorabilia and props. Visitors can tour the collection at Rancho Obi-Wan in Petaluma by ap-pointment only, the guided tour lasts two to four hours, and kids 12 and under get in free. Some of the desert scenes in the latest Star Wars movies were shot in Cali-

fornia, including the spaceport Mos Eisley. Clients should head to Dante’s View in Death Valley National Park, where they filmed the view as seen by Luke and Obi-Wan.Meanwhile Ewoks fans can wander in the Humboldt Redwoods State Park (on its Avenue of the Giants), Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park, and Griz-zly Creek Redwoods State Park, where some scenes were filmed. While there are no tours of the origi-nal LucasFilm studios near the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, clients can visit the Lucasfilms’ Letterman Digital Arts Center, home to Yoda fountain in a 17-acre park.Disneyland’s new Star Wars land is a way off yet, but visitors to the park can still build their own light saber at the Star Trader shop in Tomorrowland, and try to get picked as Padawans at the nearby Jedi Training academy.

Offers subject to availability and available on new bookings only. Earlybird Specials cannot be combined with any other offer, unless otherwise stated. ALL FLY/AIR OFFERS: Based on wholesale airfares in economy class with Singapore Airlines or an airline of Travelmarvel’s choosing, and are subject to availability of the related airline booking class.
