Biome Concept

The Mercedes BIOME is the first concept car to move away from the heavy metal production line and move into the lab i.e. this car is grown in a laboratory.

BIOME concept car, was unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November 2010.

Mercedes-Benz has re-envisioned the one ton steel standard, designing a car made out of a steel-alternative called Bio Fibre.

Bio Fibre is lighter than metal and plastic yet stronger than steel.According to Mercedes, Bio Fibre is grown from proprietary DNA that in the companys nursery, where it gathers the suns energy and stores it in a liquid chemical bond called BioNectar4535.

The BioNectar4535 powers the Biome which is housed in the vehicles chassis, interior, and wheels.

Apart from the BioNectar4535, Mercedes engineers have also worked on the idea of installing receptors that, if used properly, could transform its own amount of energy taken directly from the sun into the car.

At the end of its life, the car is fully capable of composting and thus, can be used as its own building material.

Exterior and InteriorIt only weighs 876 pounds (397 kilograms).

The whole structure is completely out of the Jetsons with a nose that looks like a plane and wheels resembling those of its turbines.

As for the interior, the 2+2 seating arrangement comes in the shape of a diamond with the driver seating in the middle up front with two passengers just behind him on either side and another one at the back.

The Mercedes-Benz BIOME is a natural technology hybrid, and forms part of our earths ecosystem.

It grows and thrives like the leaves on a tree according to Hubert Lee, Head of the Mercedes-Benz Advanced Design Studios in Carlsbad.

As part of process, the vehicle is created from two seeds: The interior of the BIOME grows from the DNA in the Mercedes star on the front of the vehicle, while the exterior grows from the star on the rear.

They designed a vehicle which is fully integrated into the ecosystem, from the moment of its creation right through to the end of its service life.

The Mercedes-Benz BIOME grows in a completely organic environment from seeds sown in a nursery.

Out on the road the car emits pure oxygen, and at the end of its lifespan it can be simply composted or used as building material.

The vehicle "grows" when the genetic code is combined with the seed capsule.

The wheels are grown from four separate seeds.

The car is a direct link with natures energy sources and acts as an incentive to cover mobility energy requirements through more trees and at the same time maintain natural resources.

This initiative is suppose to be incentive to plant more trees and collect more energy to create a self sustaining example of symbiosis.

Apply those concepts to a car and the BIOME would not hurt the environment or be wasteful in any way, kind of like a "partnership with nature."

But with the strong movement towards greener technology, perhaps the BIOME does stand a chance in the competitive automotive industry.

Other Concept

Smart forvisionThe smart forvision is also a one-off vehicle concept which combines a futuristic design with technologies relating to energy efficiency, lightweight design and temperature management. One particular eye-catching feature is its roof made of transparent organic solar cells. It allows light to pass through and at the same time generates energy which is used to power the multimedia components as well as the fans which assist with climate management in the vehicle interior.

The smart ebike boasts an unconventional design and functions appropriate for city use. These come courtesy of high-quality components such as the hydraulic disc brakes, LED light with daytime driving light function and also an exceptionally high-performance drive system with a completely maintenance and oil-free carbon toothed belt. For infotainment there is also a USB connection. The smart ebike is already available, with prices in Germany starting at 2849 euros (Rs 2,31,434.94).Smart ebike
