BIOETHICS AND THE OBESITY INTEGRATIVE THERAPEUTIC ATTITUDE

Maria Gabriela Traian*, Adorata Elena Coman**, Lucian Traian***, Rodica Petrovanu****

Abstract. Ethics is the science of morality. Define "ethics" is a complex issue in view of pluralism in which we

live, the multitude of views and the variety of moral norms, legal, cultural and social concept that includes them.

Obesity is a major health problem by: a high incidence especially in industriali!ed countries# an impairment of

life duration and $uality# promote a pathology of cardiovascular, respiratory, rheumatology, endocrinal%

metabolically mortality of &.' % ( times higher than in normal weight# increased operatory ris)# psycho%social

conse$uences. *ioethics should act both at individual and population level, in order to avoid social isolation. +he

techni$ues used include individual therapy, group therapy in which the family psychologist and psychotherapy

is very important. +he doctor must act for cognitive restructuring. Obese patient is a fragile patient, vulnerable

and should be given full support, confidence and understanding in order to avoid its stigma. ey words: ethics,

    obesity, prevention.

Epidemi!"#. +he obesity is the pandemic of the actual age and it is considered that its start was after the

-econd orld ar. /n the last 01 years the obesity frec$uency has grown exponential 0. /n 2-3, the obesity

causes 411.111 deceases every year, the second place after smo)ing 0115. /n all developed countries, (1%617

of adult population is overweight or obese. /n 2-3, '47 of the adult population is overweight or obese and

047 have metabolic syndrome 8O, 0115. 3round the world, there are approximately &'1 million diabetics,

of which 917 of type 0 8O, 0115.Ethics is the science of morality. Ethics is define as a complex issue in

view of the society pluralism in which we live, the multitude of opinions and the variety of moral, legal, cultural

and social norms, that this concept includes them. ersonal values do not always coincide with the code of the

professional behavior and;or social values, as the social justice is not always e$uivalent to the legal justice. +he

research progress in biology and medicine, important areas of research in general, important factors of human

development, have been accompanied of concerns about possible shortfalls, lapses of control, and ris)s to

achieve human rights and dignity and even physical integrity &&. *ioethics has been considered as the

revelation manifestation of the moral and social life of the end of twentieth century. /t appeared as a reaction to

the intersection of three fundamental fields: clinical medicine and medical research, philosophy and humanities

disciplines, the public health and the health policy. *ioethics is necessary for biopolitics not become the

instrument by which the normal evolution of the human species to be bloc)ed &. 2nder human rights, everyone

has the right to choose their $uality of life, the country cannot re$uire a uni$ue design on the existence &0. +he

bioethics term is understood today as having two distinct origins: traditional medical ethics and moral

philosophy. +he principials consider that are necessary and sufficient four principles in bioethics: the principle of

charity beneficience, of autonomy, of undoing bad non%malefience, of justice &1. *ioethics is therefore an

interdisciplinary, dynamic study of some problems created by maintaining the health in the context of scientific

    development.

Obese patient is a patient with a fragile moral condition. Obesity is not always the result of an uncurbed pleasure,

but more commonly a disease, which in turn generates other diseases 6. +he contribution of the discussion with

the patient to ma)e him understand the extent of the problem can be over '17 of successful treatment. +here are

used individual, group, family therapy techni$ues in which the psychologist and psychotherapist role is very

important. Efficiency increases when behavioral therapy is applied to the whole family. atient awareness isimportant for their food behavior 4,(. +he doctor must intervene in cognitive restructuring % helping patients

with answers to their negative attitudes, the deterrent effectiveness of previous attempts and duration of therapy to

reduce weight. 3lso the physician must underta)e a nutrition education, dietetics and culinary diet based on

scientific, non%harmful, as appropriate needs, balanced principles, practical and effective. +he aim of all methods

applied should be the patientQs $uality of life and should discontinue the vicious circle &(.

C$c!%si$s: Nutritional behavior has a constitutional%genetic component and an environmentR psycho%social

one. +he attitude with an obese patient should not be offensive and careless, but rather careful and accurate.

sychologist and family involvement is as important as the therapeutic approach. +he obesity treatment endorses

the nutrition behavior too and the therapeutical approach is holistical, from this point of view.
