Perhaps the main contributors that have shaped his life already in his early youth were the Biafra War, the Liberia War, the Balkans War, the Rwanda War, the Caucuses War and Poverty in general. And on the more positive side, contributing to longer-term development in a host of countries that have moved from deep poverty to pockets of prosperity and hope. Lars is a consummate entrepreneur by nature where “no” is rarely a good answer. Through-out most of his life he has led many “Build-Operate-Transfer” efforts ranging from small company start-ups, to consortia and coalitions, to major organizational functional change efforts, to academia and new degree programmes, to major complex relief efforts, to major infrastructure projects. He rarely cares to take credit for achievements, but would rather see others owning and succeeding in further growing upon the established foundations for change. And with this in mind, he is always looking 10 to 15 years ahead, trying to balance “the short game” with “the long game” horizons. Currently, he is working as an independent author and speaker drawing from his 35 years deeply engaged in Global Development Issues. He spends much of his time in the “4 th Sector” space, focusing on new approaches that are much more effective in leveraging Charity and Markets for Humanity, through Converging, Connecting and Catalysing. Lars served as World Vision International’s Chief Futurist. In today’s landscape of complex dilemmas in food economies, shifting concepts in work and education, technological disruption, economic distribution and disparities, shrinking job markets, political upheaval, class disenfranchisement, environmental collapse and resource wars, almost every single issue has become a systemic, complex problem with no obvious solution. And leaders are desperately seeking for order in the midst of chaos. He earned hisMaster'sDegreeinBusinessAdministration(MBA)fromAndrewsUniversityinBerrienSprings,Michigan.HewasrecentlygiventheAlumnusoftheYearAwardfromSouthernAdventistUniversityfor“Honouringvisionary professional and personal contributions to advancing economic and social conditions fordevelopingcountriesthroughouttheworld.”He has lived and worked in Nigeria, Ghana, Liberia, Rwanda, Burundi, and the Congo on longer-termmissions.
