A Double Paradigm Shift

The Global Construction Industry

Page 3: BIMobject® seminar 7th of may 2013 Denmark

“BIM is the first truly global digital construction technologyand will soon be deployed in every country in the world.

It is a 'game changer' and we need to recognise that it is here to stay …..

The UK programme based on the Government BIS BIM Strategy is currently the most ambitious and advanced centrally driven programme in the world.”

Patrick MacLeamy Chief Executive Officer of HOK

BIM

Page 4: BIMobject® seminar 7th of may 2013 Denmark

“The day is near when there will be a significant cost to product manufacturers if they do NOT produce BIM information for their clients. The stark reality is that BIM will continue to significantly change the construction business environment and

product manufactures who are not willing to adapt to support the BIM process will face the reality that they will cease to remain competitive in the

marketplace.”  John TebbitDeputy Chief Executive and Industry Affairs DirectorConstruction Products Association

Agenda

7th of May Copenhagen Denmark

What is CAD/BIM?

Computer Aided Design means using design and drafting software to create 3D models & drawings in Architecture, Design, Building design and Construction.

Building Information Modeling is the successor of CAD and is a more modern intelligent way of creating a virtual building in the computer that automatically can create all drawings, models, Quantities, energy calculations and the information model is used in all parts of the design, construction and building process.

EVOLUTIONEVOLUTION

Computers and software has evolved very fast the last 20 years for designers, Architects, engineers and builders.

Where Automotive and Aerospace have been for some years, the building industry is now entering very quickly when CAD is replaced by BIM.

CAD is an imitation of the drawing board and the main tasks is to create a 2D drawing on the computer and save time on changes on dwg’s

The drafting board is quickly replaced during this decade...

A BIM model consists of BIM objects

The software companies that sell the BIM software deliver a standard set of components that is referred to as GENERIC.

In the early phase it is sufficient to use gerneric components, BUT

The further you detail the model, use it for analyzes or detail documentation, quantities and simulations you need material and building product data to enrich the model so it can be used.

Our ambition is to be the link between the

complex technology around CAD & BIM and

our customers, the Building product and

interior manufacturers.

Page 35: BIMobject® seminar 7th of may 2013 Denmark

The manual entry methodArchitects, designers & engineers source information from the web, catalogues, PDF files and datasheets and manually enter this data into generic objects or in multiple systems to add neccessary data.

Many times they rebuild and consctruct their own library of 3D objects and BIM files since they need it.

This leads to huge downtimes in productivity and likelihood for errors.

Page 36: BIMobject® seminar 7th of may 2013 Denmark

The smart BIMobject® methodWhat IF

the building and interior product manufacturers would provide architects & designers with objects for their BIM systems that have all correct 2D drawings (plans, details), 3D representations (section-3D), materials (views, characteristics) and all the necessary properties (CE, heights, configurations, constraints etc) included from the get go?

This would be a huge benefit for the users of BIM systems to get information rich, nicely created and smart BIM objects that make every designers job more efficient, fun, stimulating, rewarding, and making it possible to evaluate, simulate, and test products in a building design early on.

Energy calculations, light simulations, sun studies, functional requirements and solutions for smart economic and sustainable solutions.

Architects, engineers and design professionals find your products, download

and use them in the design and specification process.

All for free always for ”users”

- Increased productivity, No need to create objects manually- Less errors- Better understanding of products functionality and characteristics- No need to draw 2D details- Know that the objects really exist in reality- Know that the object you place is a product availible for purchase- All variations of the product are integrated.- Link to other documents like maintenance, productsheets etc- BIM model enriched, easy to do simulations and analyzes- Quantity calculations to a new level- Deliver higher quality models for builders, production and facility management.

We help Manufacturers to successfully develop, maintain and market digital replicas of their products as BIM objects.

We keep the product information in a neutral form but build real objects in native BIM

formats.

Page 41: BIMobject® seminar 7th of may 2013 Denmark

- Product placement as early as possible- Help to get products specified- Get something new to offer designers- Descisions get digital - objects are digital replicas of a real product- USP’s of a product can be easier communicated- Get more visibility on the web- Brand your products inside the BIM software- Great way to communicate your products functionality, options and variations.- Minimize mistakes how products are designed in a building- Supply product information into BIM models through the BIM objects- Engage the customers- Help the BIM users save time
