Welcome to the

Great South Chapter #2505

Weekly 411 August 22nd 2010

GRILLERS NEEDED

Fellow GS HOG members!! Come out and support Great South Harley by donating 3 hours of your time any Saturday to grill hot dogs and burgers. Get to know other HOG members, recruit new ones to our chapter and talk bikes and rides (exaggerated truths are encouraged). Let Great South Harley know, especially Gene and Kevin that we

Page 2: Bill Stankiewicz Copy Of Gshog 411 August 22th 2010

appreciate how much they support the HOG chapter. I know we all enjoy our GS HOG discounts and having use of the HOG Pen. This opportunity is available every Saturday from noon to 3 PM. If you can spare a few hours on Saturday please contact Tim Summers at [email protected] and let him know you are willing to help out. Your support is greatly appreciated!

DINNER RIDE -- GSHD (C) – EVERY THURSDAY, AT 6:30 PM

Meet at the Hog Pen to plan and decide on a dinner destination. These are usually very easy and short rides to a local eatery. The camaraderie is great and it is a good time for new members to meet others in the chapter. One of our most popular rides. 1-2 pigs

Message From Steve Adams GS HOG Director

http://www.communitywelcomehouse.org/about.html

One of the local charities that Great South HOG supports, the Coweta Community

Welcome House for abused women and children, has requested some items that

most have around the house or are inexpensive to purchase. The list below is

those things that they need on an urgent ongoing basis. Anything you can

contribute would be welcome. If we all gave just one item it would make an

positive impact and be most helpful to the residents of the home. Please bring

them with you to the Chapter meeting on Thursday evening and I will deliver them

on Friday. If you could help it would be most appreciative.

Fresh meat, fruit and vegetables, (potatoes, onions, tomatoes, cucumbers,

squash, lettuce, cabbage) cheese, lunch meat, eggs, juice, sugar, tea, canned

tuna and salmon, saltine crackers, various types of pasta (noodles, macaroni,

spaghetti, lasagna) macaroni and cheese, size 5 diapers, preemie diapers and

clothes, ketchup, butter/margarine, paper towels and a bassinet, and sheets for it

Gift cards are awesome. This helps with emergency needs.

In September, 2009, the Wounded Warrior Project came home to Peachtree City, GA when

native son, Army 1st LT Dan Berschinski, was injured in Afghanistan, stepping on an

improvised explosive device. His plight gained national attention in part due to a small

group of volunteers that organized an email campaign, a motorcycle ride, and other events

to fund assistance for Dan and his family. Although far from completely recovered, Dan has

done remarkably well and still receives cards and letters from supporters throughout the

country.

Unfortunately, many other brave young men and women are injured daily as they disregard

their own safety to fight with pride for our country and its principles in Iraq, Afghanistan, and

other hot spots around the world. Often, they are nameless heroes who consciously

decided to fight for our country’s freedoms, knowing they might well be hurt. I’m hoping you

will be able to help them receive the well-deserved nationwide attention accorded Dan.

At Great South Harley Davidson in Newnan, GA we appreciate everything these young

heroes are doing and have started a national campaign to raise awareness and funding for

The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP), an organization that does a remarkable job in

helping these warriors continue their fight for a normal lifestyle. The WWP assists injured

soldiers from the time they come home, with supplies, financial counseling, and education

to retrain them towards a productive life, among other things. On the Great South Harley

Davidson WWP website, http://greatsouthwwp.com you can see that these injured

warriors have gone bear hunting in Alaska, ice climbing in Wyoming, and snow skiing in

Colorado.

These activities reaffirm self-confidence in our wounded veterans and remind them of the

full lives they will still live.

The Wounded Warrior Project is a 501 (3) (k) non-profit organization funded primarily

through personal and corporate sponsorship. Our goal is to involve America in the

remarkable work this organization does to support those who’ve given much more than

money in support of our country.

Page 5: Bill Stankiewicz Copy Of Gshog 411 August 22th 2010

Our expectation is to raise $1,000,000 for the Wounded Warrior Project this year. We

have challenged every Harley Owners Group (HOG) in the country, and the response

among Harley riders in this great nation has been overwhelming.

We are also asking for your personal involvement in assisting Great South Harley

Davidson in raising funds for the Wounded Warrior Project. Let’s crush that goal of

$1,000,000. These brave young warriors have put their lives on the line for the freedoms

that we so often take for granted. They stepped up to the plate for us and now it’s our turn

to go to bat for them. I know that economic times are pretty tough right now, but every little

bit helps. Think of how much these brave young men and women are doing for us. For

those of you that can, join us on the ride on August 28th. We will leave from the HOG Pen

at 9:00 and go to the POW Memorial in Andersonville, GA. We will have lunch at Yoder’s

when we arrive and probably dinner on the return ride home at a place TBD.

We are starting to get a lot of chatter from other HOG Chapters in Georgia and, in

particular, the Miami HOG Chapter, who raised almost $1200 the first week they got

involved. Let’s not let them outdo us!

All we ask is that you go to the web site (www.greatsouthwwp.com), look at the videos, and

see what we are doing. Then make your donations, which can be mailed to the address

above. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Thank you in advance for your support in our efforts to raise awareness and funding for the

Wounded Warrior Project.

Remember, it’s not about the war, it’s about the warrior.

Ric O’Brien

Steve Adams, The Director of Great South HOG has pledged a donation

of $.50 for every mile ridden on the Wounded Warrior ride and

challenges all Great South HOG members to make a pledge of their own.

Any amount will help in this very worthwhile effort. There are other HOG

Chapters involved in community fundraising for this great cause and we

need to ensure Great South HOG stands out among them all.

Received a message from Ric O’Brien this morning “I match that pledge” If you want to

pledge contact Ric or to donate go to www.greatsouthwwp.com. The ride is free but

donations will be accepted.

10/8 -10/10 Fall Leaf Run Information

Click here http://greatsouthhog.com/code/EventPopUp.aspx?Uid=106&Dt=20101008

Due to many requests to leave the Fall Leaf Run routing the same as last year, I am pleased to do so

unless the pre-ride presents a problem. If you wish to stay indoors for the two over-nights, 10 rooms at

the Super 8 are blocked once again (they’re the only act in town that will put up with us noisy riff-raff).

They are all non-smoking with two double beds. We will probably be on the rear second floor again like

last year. The rate is $67.45 plus tax. You may be able to upgrade to a king size bed on the first floor

rear for only $5 more if you reserve early. When calling to make your reservation, tell them it is in the

name of HOG CHAPTER, Register the room in your name and on your credit card. Call before Friday

October 1st to reserve – after that all rooms blocked under HOG CHAPTER will be cancelled. When the

ten rooms are gone there may or may not be more rooms available. Rates in other nearby motels are

between $103 and $139 per night.
