COLD INSULATIONMAKING SURE THINGS STAY COOLCooling requires energy. The amount of energy needed for cooling generation as well as cooling preservation during transportation is significant – and expensive. Our cold insulation prevents surface condensation and reduces cold loss.

This service is extremely important in food production and processing in particular. Production processes and process engineering processes are supported and a significant contribu-tion is made to safety and quality. Our solutions are also used in many other industrial areas, including the pharmaceutical industry.

DEMANDING AND SUSTAINABLE SOLUTIONS!

Cryogenic insulation is becoming increasingly important. Liquid gas (LNG) is one of the energy sources of the future. We rely on many years of experience when implementing this technically demanding solution. The cryogenic insulation of transport and storage containers at process temperatures between –165 °C and –196 °C, whose temperatures vary depending on their fill level, plays an important part in our service portfolio.

This also allows you to benefit from our experience in the implementation of conventional cold insulation.

Alongside the standard cooling insulation materials, such as synthetic rubber products and foam glass, we are also increas-ingly using PUR in-situ foams.

NOISE PROTECTIONMAKING SURE IT STAYS QUIET The legal requirements for noise protection and occupational safety in industry and commercial business are strict and comprehensive noise protection solutions are therefore obligatory. Our innovations in noise protection make an important contribution to protecting people and the environment. We provide you with competent support from planning to implementation.

We check the condition of your operation using modern technology and assume responsibility for measurement, development, manufacture, assembly and commissioning of your custom-ized noise protection system.

FIRE PROTECTION IN BUILDING CONSTRUCTION

The separation of pipelines as well as ventilation and smoke extraction systems can be equally difficult in building and in-dustrial construction. Limited space or work in escape routes in residential construction as well as high requirements in industry, such as axial loads and high temperature differences continue to present new challenges to preventative fire protection.

FIRE PROTECTION IN INDUSTRY

Steel and concrete structures lose their rigidity through extreme heat input, for example from fire, and can no longer stand up to heavy loads. That is why steel supports and beams for pipeline bridges as well as skirt supports for containers must be insulated against fire. As fire protection experts, we only trust in tested and approved fire protection systems based on mineral fibers and vermiculite or perlite. The advantages are clear: the systems have a low layer thickness, despite fire resistance class F240, they are low in weight and can be processed quickly, which also reduces construction time.

Did you know: Spray plaster systems can be an alternative to thermal insulation and noise protection (e.g. on storey ceilings) – talk to us, we would be happy to advise you.

Surfaces can also be protected against fire and corrosion with a combination of epoxy resin and fire-reactive filling materi-als. The individual materials are developed into highly robust and durable coatings with fiber, in order to protect surfaces of different kinds against fire and corrosion. In addition to ap-plication offshore (rigs and drilling platforms), these coatings are also increasingly used onshore (liquid gas containers, column skirt supports, steel constructions etc. in industry). Despite fire resistance class F240, this system also has a low layer thickness. Difference surface qualities can be achieved, from a technically to an optically high quality surface (choice of RAL color) through different application techniques (airless spraying, manual application, prefabrication, injections).

No problemIn industrial plants, combinations are often required, which offer thermal or cold protection insulation alongside fire protection measures. Thanks to our experience in these classic insula-tion services, our engineers can always offer you a solution here, so that your plant can work optimally under the given operating conditions. FIRE PROTECTION IN CIVIL ENGINEERING

Tunnel constructions are important hubs for current and future traffic volumes.

Ever longer and more complex tunnel systems are being de-signed and built and existing tunnels are being renovated. As a result of serious accidents with the consequences of fire and material damage as well as personal injury, discussions about safety standards have gained momentum. These discussions are now being increasingly integrated into the planning and renovation of tunnel constructions.

The safety standard is primarily based on a scenario with an accident involving fire – the greatest risk for people, vehicles and the construction. The protection of structural concrete against spalling as a result of the rapid temperature increase is becoming ever more important. DEMOLITIONIn 2011, immediately after the nuclear accident at the Fukushima nuclear power plant, Germany decided to pull out of nuclear power and to shut down all nuclear power plants in the country by 2022. With the closure of the nuclear power plants, the focus is, of course, also on their demolition.

COLD ROOM CONSTRUCTIONEnsuring the quality is right: Our specialist areas are the installation and new construction as well as the expansion of cold and deep-freeze rooms for the food and beverage industry, the chemical and pharmaceutical industry as well as hotels, gastronomy and retail.

We advise our customers when it comes to planning and as-sembly. We design, produce and assemble tailor-made solutions such as variable temperature chambers, climatic wind tunnels and chassis dynamometers for the automobile industry as well

INTERIOR INSULATIONWHEN THINGS GET HOT – WE CAN MANAGE THE TOUGHEST DEMANDSUnlike classic exterior insulation, interior insulation systems are in-stalled directly on the inside of the object and are thus directly exposed to the heat source – generally exhaust gas from a gas turbine or flue gas. Temperatures of up to 1000 degrees Celsius are not unusual.

The aim is too reduce the temperature to the extent that conven-tional steel qualities can be used on the object and use of high quality, very expensive steel can be avoided. The implementa-tion of this type of insulation is highly technically demanding, as the internal covering panels are partially subject to huge thermal expansion, which must be compensated for through corresponding construction.

TIPCHECK CONSULTING AND CONCEPT DESIGN Insulation standards in the public sector are extremely high and rep-resent a legal requirement pursu-ant to the energy saving ordinance (EnEV) 2009. Insulation thickness, however, has hardly changed in industry in the last 30 years.

Comprehensive, modern insulation results not only in signifi-cant reductions in energy costs, but can also uncover safety risks (e.g. contact protection) and technical defects such as corrosion of pipes.

During the so-called TIPCHECK – TIPCHECK stands for Technical Insulation Performance Check – weaknesses and untapped po-tential for insulation / uninsulated components are identified and solutions are offered through appropriate insulation measures.

DISCUSSION WITH THE PLANT OPERATOR

Relevant plant data is collected, contact partners in the plant are named, particular safety measures are explained.

RECORDING OF THE CURRENT SITUATION

Current insulation of pipelines, valves and containers including thermal bridges are recorded directly in the plant. The measurements are made with a thermal imaging camera, surfaces and refrigeration systems are examined with a humidity probe.

EVALUATION OF THE RECORDINGS AND CALCULATION OF CURRENT HEAT LOSS

Transfer of the operating parameters and the measured data into our thermal computing program, creation of a report for each examined component of the plant including a report on thermal bridges. Summary of the results and listing of the identified total heat loss.

DEVELOPMENT OF SUGGESTIONS FOR IMPROVEMENT

Optimization suggestions such as additional insulation, disassembly, reassembly of the insulation with changed insulation thickness or a reduction of thermal bridges through appropriate insulation systems are examined and assessed. Payback calculations are then made.

COMPLIANCE-SYSTEM BINDING FOR EVERYONETransparency, a sense of responsibility, security and integrity when dealing with business partners and colleagues are the values which are particularly important to us and sustainably ensure our economic success.

They are a fixed part of the Bilfinger corporate culture. In order to always ensure uniform application for the entire Bilfinger Group, new compliance regulations have been in effect throughout the Group since 1st of November 2012.

The Mission Statement in place at Bilfinger describes our core values and identity, defines the standards for our conduct, and establishes the objectives that we work towards for the good of our company, our employees, shareholders and business partners alike.

The present Code of Conduct sets out the details of the requirements we must meet in terms of compliance and ethical conduct. We understand the term “compliance” to mean both adherence to our internal rules, as given in the Code of Conduct and the appurtenant corporate guidelines, and observance of the corresponding statutory regulations. Busi-ness conduct is ethical wherever it corresponds to the general principles of integrity and decency, and where the people we deal with perceive it to be right. Our Code of Conduct lays out the general principles that our actions must adhere to, and determines our actions regarding important aspects of our business dealings.

In addition to this general orientation for our ethical conduct for any cases of doubt, the corporate guidelines appurtenant to the Code of Conduct provide specific instructions regarding our behavior in certain contexts.

The Mission Statement, the Code of Conduct and the appurtenant corporate guidelines must be observed by the Group’s Executive Board, the management of our affiliates, executives, and all other employees of our corporation. Our employees are obliged to complete training courses on the Group compliance regulations and to strictly observe these.

We at Bilfinger also expect our business partners to act with integrity and comply with the law. In our business relations with suppliers, service providers, subcontractors, distribution agents and partners in joint venture working groups, we will work towards adherence to the standards in place at our company that govern such relations.

SUSTAINABILITY GIVING OUR BEST – EVERY DAYWe at Bilfinger derive our understanding of sustain-ability from the Brundtland Report. The report, pub-lished in 1987, provides the basis for the majority of international environmental agreements: „Sustaina-ble development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.“

We are convinced that long-term corporate success can only be achieved when eco-nomic changes are harmonized with social and ecological aspects. We have therefore embedded our understanding of sustainability in the Bilfinger Mission Statement and in our Code of Conduct.

An open dialog creates trust and forms the foundation for business success. We there-fore seek a constructive exchange with peo-ple and institutions.

We maintain a regular exchange of infor-mation and ideas with our employees and stakeholders. Our objective is to identify and understand their needs, expectations and positions and, to as great an extent as pos-sible, to take these into consideration in our business decisions. At the same time, the dialog serves to create understanding for our objectives and our actions.

The concerns of our customers are always the focus of business activities for us as a service provider. We help our customers in-crease their energy and process efficiency

and, at the same time, reduce costs. Greater energy efficiency leads to an improved CO2 balance, optimized process efficiency and lower consumption of resources. For Bilfinger, this aspect of sustainability is a key factor for economic success.

Solutions and innovative ideas can only be proposed and developed together through direct contact and a regular exchange.

We often share a long-term cooperation with our suppliers. They support us with the devel-opment of innovative solutions for our clients and help us to efficiently shape processes. We ensure the strength of our business part-ners through a uniform Group-wide supplier management system, a Code of Conduct for suppliers and the regular measurement of their performance. A great deal of emphasis is placed on ensuring that they meet Bilfinger’s standards.
