Growing from eigth stations in 2012 to 31 in 2016, the Capital Bikeshare system is growing in Alexandria! With grant funding to add an additional 10 bikeshare statiosn in FY 2018, City staff conducted outreach on 16 possible bikeshare station locations. An online survey allowed Alexandria residents to rate each proposed station location

based on suitability. These results directly informed the top 10 prioritized stations that City staff have put forward for the next round of expansion. This document presents

the survey rating and provides a full list of comments on each station.

1.1 A big help if the other Braddock Metro bikeshare is full or empty

1.2Access to metro stops is incredibly useful. Almost all of my rides either begin or end near a metro and this would make access to Braddock Road metro a lot better. Please put in a large dock (a lot of bikes), similar to the large rack Arlington has near the shops at Crystal City (near Buffalo Wild Wings)

1.3 Allowing people to be able to bike to a Metro station can significantly cut commute times and allow a bit of healthy workout. Definitely support.

1.4 Be sure structure does not impede view of pedestrians at crosswalk ahead.1.5 Because it is not close to me I will not support it at this time 1.6 Being able to bike to all Metro stations is important 1.7 better position than the other one at Braddock Rd.

1.8 Bikeshare is very much needed on this side of the station. The adjacent sidewalk is narrow. Could this station be placed closer to the entrance for Metro - near other bike parking?

1.9 BikeShare stations work well when added in consort with existing transportation nodes. Also, the existing dock at Braddock Road is very far from the station egress.

1.10 Co-location with mass transit is an excellent option 1.11 Connects bike to Metro; high volume area.1.12 easy walk up to the buses/metro.1.13 Excellent location. Existing station at Braddock is out of the way for many people using it.

1.14 Expanding capacity near Metro seems to always be a good idea. Adding a station to this side of the Metro station is good because of the people coming from Del Ray or the access trail from King St.

1.15 Extremely congested area, lots of pedestrian crosswalk activity, introducing more bike riders in the mix here would be dangerous

1.16 Going to need speed bumps as people do not stop at stop signs now--and people on bike share bikes are generally young and clueless (and not helmeted)

1.17 Good access near a Metro station.

1.18 Good location for proximity to Potomac Yard Trail/Braddock Rd, but it’s too close to the existing Braddock Rd Metro bikeshare station.

1.26 Have no issue - doesn’t benefit me. If there was a stop in my neighborhood (Lynhaven - near Cora Kelly Elementary) this would be a tremendous way to get to and from the metro.

1.27 Honestly, it seems odd that there is not a bikeshare station there already-- it seems ideal.

1.28 I can imagine heavy usage warranting a second station at Braddock Rd. Metro, but if traffic doesn’t sup-port it yet then I’d prioritize the Glebe corridor and westward expansion.

1.29I currently use this station as Bikeshare and there currently is a bikeshare there. I’ve never had an issue picking up/dropping off. Seems like there are many locations opening up very close (~ 1/2 mile) from each other. Market saturation?

1.30 I don’t know what you mean by “support”. Do you mean do I think it is a good idea to have a metro sta-tion there? Or do you mean do I use it?

1.31 I still think you should put this closer to the Metro entrance. I support another rack of bikes, but this seems like a place where no one will find it.

1.32 I think all metro stations should have bike share options.1.33 I think it makes sense for all metro stations to have bike shares.1.34 I think the Station at Braddock Road Metro is good for now.

1.35 I think this would be a dangerous place for entry and exit of roadway. That is a very busy intersection. I would put it around the corner closer to the kiss and ride entry.

1.36 I think with the amount of pedestrian and vehicle traffic in this location that the addition of a bikeshare station could create a dangerous situation for everyone.

1.37 I use bikeshare to get to metro stations so this is a stop I would potentially use (and good use of underuti-lized space).

1.38 I would rather see coverage expand than add density of stations. There is a large nearby station on the other side of the Metro station.

1.53Not a fan of this program. Waste of tax dollars--we don’t need to subsidize bike riders. I have never seen anyone use them. If we have to have them this is a more appropriate place (public transportation sta-tion).

1.63 The existing site for the location is on the north (and across the street) from the station’s parking lot. Adding this makes sense for all the users to/fro Del Ray and Old Town.

1.65 The other Braddock station is one of the ones I use the most. I feel silly riding past my destination. I wish WMATA would cooperate more. We give then plenty of money!

1.66 The station to the north often has many or few bikes. There isn’t a very good balance. Maybe there is a way to keep it better supplied, and not have to add another station so close.

1.82 This station would make it easier to bike to the metro when coming from the west or south. Biking on the road to the current station at Braddock Road can be dangerous with all the buses and turning cars.

1.87We need trail enhancements all over Arlington and along the Potomac in DC before we add capacity. Many of the trails have not been upgraded in years yet capacity is growing every year. Many bike bridges are old, like the one near Rosevelt Island.

1.88 While I don’t see much building density in the photo, which may mean few people live or work nearby, I like how the station is located near a Metro station.

1.89 Why do we need another one at this metro station?

1.90 Why should there be bicycles? You are pushing bicycles. Was there a demand for it? At what cost to the taxpayer? Including those who don’t ride and don’t want to. Should they be taxed as well?

I have spoken with many townhouse owners who live next to where you suggest locating the bike share. They would like it moved further from their back yards/balconies, either (1) closer to the park and the school or at the intersection of the linear path and Somervelle -- the most logical location because it would have the greatest access to CS residents and Brenman park visitors.

12.1 5 years ago, I’d have been over the moon about this location. I’m concerned with all the redevelopment construction planned for this are making this a less than hospitable are to ride a bike. Plus there won’t be much “there” there to want to ride to (e.g., loss of movie theatre).

12.2A better usage would be across the street on RT 1. Still highly accessible for Potomac Yard shops but significantly more accessible to the lynhaven community and surrounding apartment buildings which are currently under utilized with bike share stops.

A station in this general area is a good idea, but this side of the road could create a dangerous situation for bikers crossing the road to get to the trail on the other side. Potomac Ave doesn’t widen until after Four Mile Run, and biking on the road for that stretch could be dangerous for slower bikers.

As a regular cyclist, I’d lean toward another station like this in Old Town. However, the Old Town resi-dents (of which I am not one) will, I think, get so upset about another parking space going away that it may not be worth the fight. PLEASE ADD THIS STATION! I am a bikeshare user who lives in this community (Hume Springs) and we do not have a bikeshare dock right in the neighborhood. The area would greatly benefit from one, since it would allow easier access to the metro stations (braddock, crystal city, pentagon city). These are a close bike ride away - faster to bike than to take the bus when bike access is available. However, the nearest bike docks are 10+ minute walk. Additionally, this area has several bike lanes nearby, plus access to the Mt. Vernon trail. It is also close to a community center and a park. This is an optimal station placement. I would almost certainly use bikeshare several times a week if there was a station here.

14.31 The Glebe Rd. corridor is surprisingly under-covered given its location, transit density, etc. This one serves me better than Glebe/Old Dominion, though the other might give better coverage for nearby residents.

The nearest bike station to my house is currently near Mom’s supermarket, but it is a pain in the ass to use, as there is no path off the 4 mile trail to the bikestation. As such, if I wanted to ride the bikeshare for my commute, it’d need to take a massive detour on my way home in order to return the bike. This sta-tion is both closer to my house, and would enable me to exit the trail at the top of edison st.

14.33 The three stations in the northwest serve communities that ride for short distance transportation. More may ride if there is an affordable Bikeshare

15.1As a resident in this neighborhood and a Capital Bikeshare member, I currently have to walk over a mile to reach a bikeshare bike. That said, if I were to be picking the location in ParkFairfax I would have put it at the top of Gunston at the management office area, but I’ll take what I can get.

I live next door to this location (at Hunting Towers) and would not want to see a bikeshare at this loca-tion. There are ones close enough further down Washington and this breaks up the nice urban bridge and serenity of the graveyard and Freeman’s memorial with an eyesore. Please don’t put a bikeshare rack here!

However, the bridge overpass platform has been landscaped very nicely and is a nice entryway from Mt. Vernon into Old Town.
