Lee Ranger District 95 Railroad Ave. Edinburg, VA 22824 (540) 984-4101 Big Schloss - 4.4 miles round trip (Not a circuit hike) Start hike at Wolf Gap Recreation Area Mile 0.0 At camp site 9, take Mill Mountain Trail (1004-orange blaze) north. 0.25 Trail switchbacks as it becomes steeper. 0.6 Grassy campsite on ridge. 0.7 View to the east. 1.5 Bear right on Big Schloss Trail (1004A-white blaze). Use caution to make certain you are on the white blazed trail as the orange blazed trail continues on to connect with other trails. 2.2 Take wooden bridge to Big Schloss. Scramble on flat rocks at the top for a 360 degree view. Return on the same route 2.2 miles. DIRECTIONS Take exit 279 off I-81. Turn west on SR 675. Follow SR 675 to STOP sign at VA 42 Turn right on VA 42, then left off VA42 to remain on SR675, now called Wolf Gap Road. Go 3 miles and bear right after trash collection station. Ascend, still on SR675, for 3.4 miles. Campground is on your right in the gap. NEARBY FACILITIES Wolf Gap Recreation Area containing 10 campsites and a vault toilet. Tibbet Knob Trail (578-yellow blaze) is a difficult 2.4 mile (one-way) scenic hike to an incredible mountain vista.
