After his Navy career, Gainey aspires to become a music producer and eventually attend the Juliard School of Performing Arts to play the drums. To Buchanan, the most rewarding aspect of his job is “knowing that I control a means to defend the ship.” Buchanan is working hard to make rank, become dual warfare qualified and be an overall successful person. Brumfield - New Orleans, Louisiana AZAN Brumfield, a logs and records clerk assigned to AIMD’s IM-1 division, joined the Navy two years ago to provide for his family. To Brumfield, the most rewarding aspects of his job are working with “cool, down-to-earth people,” receiving a guaranteed paycheck every 1st and 15th, and getting great educational benefits. Brumfield is working hard to earn his EAWS pin, make E-4 and be- come enrolled in school again by next year. In his spare time, Brumfield enjoys watching ESPN and spending time with his wife Sabrina and daughter Da’myra. AM3 Vargas, an airframes technician assigned to the “Knighthawks” of Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 136, joined the Navy three years ago “because my grandpa would’ve wanted me to.” To Vargas, the most rewarding aspect of her job is knowing how proud her family is of her every day. Vargas aspires to one day become a world- renowned heart surgeon and travel to countries that need her help. When not on the ship, Vargas enjoys playing the drums in her spare time.
