Daphne is a city in Baldwin County in the state of Alabama, located on the easternshoreline of Mobile Bay. The city is located along I-10, 11 miles east of Mobile and 170miles southwest of the state capital of Montgomery. The 2018 United States Census liststhe population of the city as 26,506 residents, making Daphne the most populous city inBaldwin County. It is a principal city of the Daphne-Fairhope-Foley metropolitan area, whichincludes all of Baldwin County. Modern-day Daphne is a thriving suburb of nearby Mobile.Daphne has adopted the nickname ʺThe Jubilee Cityʺ in recognition of its status as one ofthe locations of the Mobile Bay jubilee.

Due to the city's close proximity, Mobile’s economy affects Daphne’s. Aerospace, steel, shipbuilding, retail, services, construction, medicine, and manufacturing are Mobile's majorindustries. The Mobile Port and the shipyards have a huge impact on the area's economy.Atlantic Marine operated a major shipyard at the former Alabama Drydock and ShipbuildingCompany site on Pinto Island. It was acquired by British defense conglomerate BAESystems for $352 million. Doing business as BAE Systems Southeast Shipyards, thecompany continues to operate the site as a full-service shipyard, employing approximately600 workers with plans to expand. The Mobile Aeroplex at Brookley is an industrial complexand airport located 3 miles south of the central business district of the city. It is the largestindustrial and transportation complex in the region, having more than 70 companies, manyof which are aerospace.

Mobile is a 15-minute drive from Daphne, making it the perfect city to spend the day.Mobile is a port city on Alabama’s Gulf Coast. The World War II USS Alabama battleship isanchored in Battleship Memorial Park. Floats, costumes and photos at the Mobile CarnivalMuseum illuminate the city’s centuries-old Mardi Gras tradition. The 1850 Cathedral Basilicaof the Immaculate Conception features intricate German stained glass. International fine anddecorative art is displayed at the Mobile Museum of Art. The city is also home to theBellingrath Gardens and Home which includes a historic house where guests can tour thatincludes amazing flower arrangements and numerous fountains. The city is also home to theGulfQuest National Maritime Museum of the Gulf of Mexico which is a non-profitinteractive museum dedicated to the maritime heritage and culture of the Gulf of Mexico.
