responsibly. This allows small waste items to be collected, separated, and disposed of, with all recyclable items being put to better use – a reassurance to businesses that they are doing their part to positively impact the environment.

This development follows last year’s successful launch of Biffa OneCall – a rapid emergency waste removal service for businesses across the UK, operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with a dedicated fl eet of purpose built collection vehicles.

Promotion Biffa has a passionate communications team who create strategies across all creative channels to highlight important waste management and public safety issues to businesses and the general public.

In 2016, Biffa teamed up with Recycle Now to launch the Wasteaters campaign; which saw 15 Biffa trucks with their own individual monster paint job hit the streets, ready to ‘guzzle’ the waste loaded into their ‘giant bodies’.

The trucks visited primary schools across the UK to help educate children about the waste journey and the importance of recycling. The public were encouraged to look out for the trucks, take a photo if they spotted them, and tweet it to @biffa using #wasteater. Biffa also launched a dedicated website containing profi les of all of the Wasteaters, as well as clues of where they can be spotted.

As well as educating the next generation on waste management, Biffa also campaigned for the safety of the community with the launch of DRoPs: Driving Recklessly on Pavements. Every month it is estimated that more than 30,000 incidents of reckless driving on pavements take place across the UK, often as impatient drivers try to get around waste collecting vehicles, resulting in collisions that can be fatal.

Biffa worked with police services and local authorities to raise awareness of the issue, receiving national coverage and great results for local councils across the UK – including Cannock District Council who reported their incidents had been more than halved thanks to the campaign.

Another campaign close to Biffa’s heart is the People Sheltering in Bins campaign. In recent years there has been a surge in the number of homeless people using waste containers as a place of refuge – despite this being highly dangerous. A number of initiatives have been enlisted by Biffa to help tackle this issue, including a robust partnership with charity Streetlink and vans being fi tted with CCTV cameras to identify people before the bins are emptied.

Brand ValuesBiffa takes its responsibilities to customers and their communities very seriously, operating by fi ve key values; be safe, be innovative, be customer focused, be a team player, be accountable. The company strives to deliver an excellent customer experience, as well as serving to protect the environment, employees, and the public.

The team develops and grows its innovative range of services to ensure it is providing for all waste-related needs across the UK, while encouraging businesses and households to dispose of waste in a way that’s benefi cial to the environment and local communities.
