Bidadi township project gets fresh lease of lifeBangalore: June 4, DHNS:

Enthused by the overwhelming response of investors to the Global

Investors Meet (GIM), the State Government on Friday revived the BidadiIntegrated Township project by floating a fresh tender.

The Bangalore Metropolitan Region Development Authority (BMRDA) has issued a

notification calling the Request for Qualification (RFQ) from investors. August 30 is the

last date for submitting the RFQ document which will be opened on August 31.

The township, planned to be positioned as New Bangalore, is proposed to come up on

9,178 acre in Bidadi, Ramanagar district, on the outskirts of Bangalore (31 km from

Bangalore city) at an estimated investment of up to Rs 60,000 crore under PPP model.

The purpose is to de-congest Bangalore Metropolitan Area (BBMP and BDA area). The

township is based on the work-live-play concept integrating select economic activities

in manufacturing, service and business categor ies.

The ambitious project was initially awarded to the Delhi-based real estate major DLF

during H D Kumaraswamy tenure as the chief minister in 2007.

The DLF had tied up with Dubai-based developer, Limitless, to implement the project.

It, however, could not make any headway due to political instability in the State andsubsequent global economic meltdown. The project developer, as a result, backed out

    of the deal.

The DLF withdrew from the project due to economic slowdown. Now the economy is

on a recovery mode and so we have decided to re-tender it. We thought the GIM will

be the ideal time for it, said V P Baligar, Principal Secretary to Commerce and

    Industries Department.

He also said many companies, including some from Dubai, have already shown interest

in the project. But he did not disclose the names of those companies.

The BMRDA distributed brochures to the delegates participating in a seminar on

infrastructure at the GIM to advertise the project.

Accordingly, the developer w ill be responsible for infrastructure development,

constructions, marketing, operation and maintenance of the township.

The project area covers 10 villages of Byramangala, Bannigiri, Hosur, K G

    Gollarapalya, Kanchugaranahalli, Kanchugaranahalli Kaval, Aralalasandra,

Kempayyanapalya, Mandalahalli and Vaderahalli. Of total 9,178 acre identified for the

project, 6,336.33 acre is private land and 2,198.21 acre is Government land.

The BMRDA has promised to provide single window service in securing necessary

approvals for the developer to implement the project.
