mounted. Early English red straight-grained morocco gilt,
spine gilt with raised bands, gilt turn-ins, marbled

A rare and beautifully bound collection of original drawings
and watercolours, including a work by Margaret Meen "the
most outstanding woman painter associated with Kew
[Gardens] in the eighteenth century" (Mabley) and an early
representation of one of Australia's most spectacular
butterflies, the Cape York Birdwing.

[Germany or Egerland: circa 1830]. Small oblong folio. 13
leaves with portraits of 13 European birds, the bodies of
shaped cut paper overlaid with feathers, these mounted
onto a backing sheet, the backing sheet then painted in
watercolour and bodycolour, all but one subject identified
in ink by a single hand on the verso of the sheet. Near-
contemporary brown cloth album, covers elaborately
blocked in blind, title label (D̀eutsche Vogel') applied to
upper cover. Modern brown cloth box, brown morocco
lettering piece.
A charming highly-accomplished collection of
