If you have time or if children are disengaging from the game, here are a few other games you can play with your group: Memory - Place the cards facedown and encourage children to find each set of matching cards by turning over two at a time. I Spy - Place the cards faceup and say, “I spy…” while calling out a color, Quest animal, or number from one of the cards for the children to find. Four Corners - Place four cards faceup on the ground and encourage children to stand by one of them. Then, choose one of the four cards — anyone standing next to it is out. Go Fish - Deal five cards to each child and encourage them to take turns asking another player if they have one of their cards. If the other child has it, they’ll hand over their card, but if not, they’ll say “go fish,” and the child must draw a card from the deck.

obey God?”(scared) 3. “After God showed Gideon His power, was

7. “Was Gideon brave because he trusted that God knew everything?” (yes)

• Say, “Gideon’s story teaches us we can trust God and be brave because God knows everything. In fact, today’s main point is ‘God knows everything so I can be brave.’ Let’s say that together! (Lead children in saying ‘God knows everything so I can be brave.') Great job! Who can help you be brave? (God can help me be brave.)”

CATCH OLLIE What you need: Quest playing cards (1 deck)

What you do: • Deal the cards evenly among the children by

placing cards in a facedown pile in front of each child.

• Stack any extra cards faceup in the center of the group.

• Instruct children to take turns turning over the top card from their pile and placing it faceup in the middle of the group.

• Continue until someone turns over an Ollie card on the top of the center pile.

• When the children see Ollie, they will compete to be the first person to “catch” Ollie by covering the card with their hand. The child who catches Ollie first will take all the cards from the middle and put them at the bottom of their stack.

• A child wins when they have collected all the cards!

If you have time or if children are disengaging from the game, here are a few other games you can play with your group: • Memory - Place the cards facedown and

encourage children to find each set of matching cards by turning over two at a time.

• I Spy - Place the cards faceup and say, “I spy…” while calling out a color, Quest animal, or number from one of the cards for the children to find.

• Four Corners - Place four cards faceup on the ground and encourage children to stand by one of them. Then, choose one of the four cards — anyone standing next to it is out.

• Go Fish - Deal five cards to each child and encourage them to take turns asking another player if they have one of their cards. If the other child has it, they’ll hand over their card, but if not, they’ll say “go fish,” and the child must draw a card from the deck.

COLORING PAGE What you need: crayons, coloring sheet set (12 pages), Quest check-in sheet

What you do: • Place the crayons in the center of the circle

and give each child a coloring sheet from the set.

• Write children’s names and tag numbers on the Quest check-in sheet as children arrive.

• Explain after they color, children will use these as game boards!

• As children color, get to know them by asking questions about their week or what they did or are planning to do that day.

NOTE: Use the coloring sheets as game boards for the Kid Connect: Superhero Suit-Up activity.

SUPERHERO SUIT-UP What you need: coloring sheets (from previous activity), Quest playing cards (1 deck), Bingo chips (200)

What you do: • Encourage each child to lay their coloring

sheet flat on the floor with the picture facing up.

• Give each child a handful of Bingo chips. • Turn over a Quest animal playing card and

call out the name of the Quest animal shown on the card.

Any child with that animal featured on their coloring sheet can put a Bingo chip on top of one of the four circles on that animal. If an Ollie card is turned over, children may put a Bingo chip on any circle.

• Continue the activity, turning over a new Quest animal playing card each time.

• The first child to fill all four circles on the same Quest animal superhero wins!

• Encourage children to clear their game boards before you begin the next round.

• Continue the activity for as long as time allows.

NOTE: If you finish this activity and have time, or if children are disengaging from the game, choose one of the dismissal activity card games to play with your group.

WOULD YOU RATHER What you need: foam die, question sheet

What you do: • Explain when it’s their turn, each child will

stand in a superhero stance while saying their name to the group.

• Then roll the die. The number on the die will determine which question they will answer.

• Repeat for each child in the group. • After all children are introduced, give a

Quest animal sticker to each child. Have them place it next to their name tag.

What you say: “We are the (insert Quest animal name) today! There are two very special rules to remember so we can have the most fun. The rules to follow are:

1. Be Safe - How can we be safe? (keeping our hands to ourselves, sitting when others are sitting, walking instead of running, following the rules)

2. Be Kind - How can we be kind? (listening when others are talking, sharing, obeying leaders, sitting on our bottoms so others can see)

If you can obey our special rules and are ready to have fun, put one hand in the center and repeat after me:

I am (allow response) a (insert group name). (allow response) I will (allow response) be kind and safe! (allow response) On the count of three, everyone say ‘Go (insert group name)!’ 1 … 2 … 3 … Go (insert group name)!”

AFTER THE GROUP CONNECT ACTIVITY, TRANSITION TO FREE PLAY. BEGIN YOU CONNECT AFTER LARGE GROUP.

FOLLOW THE LEADER What you need: leader cards (1 set of 8)

What you say: “In our Bible story, we learned that Gideon trusted God, even when his army got smaller and smaller. God knew what would happen, and that made Gideon and his men so brave. Let’s play a game to help us remember that God can help us be brave, too!”

What you do: • Place the leader cards on the floor and

spread them out with the pictures facing up. • Choose one child to be the leader, just like

Gideon led his army! • Encourage them to pick one leader card and

hand it to you. Show children the picture and read the back of the card.

• Encourage the “leader” to respond to the action on the card and then lead the other children in doing the same action.

• Set the leader card aside and choose a new “leader.” Continue the activity until all leader cards have been discussed.

What you say: “There are many things we don’t know and that can be scary, but we don’t have to be afraid. We can trust God because He knows everything and He can help us be brave! Let’s bow our heads and close our eyes and pray together. Dear God, please help us remember that You are always with us and You know everything. When we remember that, it will help us be brave. Thank You for loving us like You do. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
