Item 1—Room Decoration. These pictures help teach learners how to serve God. For December, make a four-sided visual of it by cutting each picture out. Tape ends together to make a continuous strip. Punch a hole in each panel in the center near the top. Tie equal lengths of string or yarn through them. Bring the four strings together and tie. Hang so that the visual turns freely. The pictures relate to all the lessons this quarter. Change the display for January to stimulate renewed interest. Cut the pictures apart and hang on a paper ribbon. Cut 3'' widths of art paper (comes in large rolls) or construction paper to tape to the backs of the pictures so that it looks like a long ribbon. In February, replace the paper ribbon with a red 2'' satin or velvet ribbon placed at an angle on the wall. Use Plasti-Tak to attach the pictures over the ribbon. Changing methods of display makes the room decoration pictures more meaningful throughout the quarter.

Item 2—Attendance Chart. Keep a record of each child’s attendance with miniature stickers in the spaces provided on the chart. Stickers are a good incentive for young children. They enjoy adding a new sticker each week with your help to get it in the right space.

Item 3—Places of Worship Pictures. Places of worship in Unit 1 lessons—Tabernacle, Temple and church house—make a meaningful bulletin board. Little learners will have a better idea of the places you talk about if they see illustrations of them. Enlarge the pictures by copying Items 3-A, 3-B and 3-C to overhead transparency films. tagboard attached to the wall and trace the lines. Color and cut out the pictures. Arrange them on a background as shown in the teacher’s guide. You may prefer to color the pictures as printed if you have a small display area. Make a poster if you do not have a bulletin board.

Prepare the visuals: Cut out the story wheel and cover. Cut along the line dividing scenes 1-1 and 1-4. Place the cover over the story wheel with scene 1-1 showing through the cut away section. Move the edge of the cover behind the story wheel and turn to reveal scene 1-2 and other scenes when called for.

Bible Story God’s people, the Israelites, lived in tents. They moved often. They were on their way to a good land God prom ised to them. “We are moving today,” the dads might say. Mothers would likely help pack their things. Children would probably watch as mothers and fathers tied their belong-ings in bundles. They walked and rode a long way to a new place. They set up the tent house in the new place. Wherever they went, there was no place for the Israelites to worship God. (Hold story wheel with scene 1-1 showing through the opening in the cover.) “Make Me a place that I may dwell among them,” God said to Moses one day. God wanted His people to have a special place where He could meet with them. “God wants us to build a Tabernacle for Him,” Moses told the Israelites. God had told Moses just how to build it. Moses did what God said. The people built a special tent called the Tabernacle. God told Moses what to put inside the Tabernacle. (Show scene 1-2.) He said to make a lampstand, also known as the candlestick, a table to hold special bread and an altar to burn incense. They covered everything with gold. (Turn to scene 1-3.) In a very special room of the Tabernacle was a box. The gold covered box was the Ark of the Covenant. On top of it was a solid gold lid, the mercy seat. This was God’s special place. The Ark of the Covenant was the most special piece of furniture in the Tabernacle. (Show scene 1-4.) God’s people were glad to have a place to worship God. They took good care of the Taber-nacle and everything in it. It all belonged to God. Our church building belongs to God. The tables, chairs and everything in the church building are God’s. That is why we need to take very good care of every-thing in it. (Talk with the learners about specific things in your church building to impress on them that it all belongs to God.)

Bible Story (Point out the Tabernacle, Item 3-A, on the bulletin board.) We learned how God’s people built Him a Tabernacle. It was a tent-like building they could take down and move about as they traveled. Now they lived in the good land to which God brought them. They did not live in tents anymore. They built houses. Their families lived in houses. It was time to build a house for God. King Solomon asked the people to help him. (Place figure 2-1 on the board.) Many men went to the forest to cut trees for wood. Chop, chop, chop. They cut many trees. (Add figure 2-2.) Other men cut big stones to make the walls. The people worked and worked to build God’s house. Finally, they finished all the work. The beautiful Temple, the house of God, was ready. King Solomon had the priests bring in the Ark of the Covenant from the Tabernacle. They put it in a special little room called the Holy of Holies. King Solomon wanted to dedicate the Temple to the worship of God. He would give the house to God for the one purpose of worshiping God. He called the people of Israel to meet at the Temple. (Replace other figures with figure 2-3.) He stood before the people with his hands raised to Heaven. Then King Solomon knelt. On his knees with his hands raised toward Heaven, King Solomon prayed. He talked to God about the house they built for wor-ship. He gave the Temple to God. He said, “O God, there is no one like You in Heaven or on earth. You keep your promises. You show mercy to those who live for You with all their hearts.” God saw the beautiful house Solomon built. (Point out the Temple, Item 3-B, on the bulletin board.) It pleased God to have a special place where His people would worship Him. God would bless them.

Bible Story In a faraway country lived some very wise men. (Place figure 3-1 on the board.) These wise men were very smart. They knew things that other men did not know. They knew that someday God would send His Son to earth as a baby. “Look at that new star in the sky!” one wise man might have said one night. (Point out the star in figure 3-1.) “I see the new star in the sky!” another wise man probably answered. They talked about it. They knew the bright star had a special meaning. “The baby! The star is so different—so bright. It means the baby is born. He is the new King of the Jews.” “Let us follow the star and find the new King,” a wise man said. “Let us take gifts to honor Him,” said another wise man. The wise men chose special gifts for the new King. They packed their gifts carefully. (Add figure 3-2.) They started in the direction of the star. They kept going and going and going. They followed the star for many miles. (Let learners pretend to be the wise men riding their camels around the room for a few seconds. Then come back to the story area.) It took a long time for the wise men to travel from their homes to Bethlehem where Jesus lived. Jesus was not a newborn baby in the stable manger now. He was a little child. (Put up figure 3-3.) He lived with Mary and Joseph in a house. The star stopped over the house where they lived. The wise men went into the house and saw Jesus with His mother, Mary. They knelt and worshiped Jesus, God’s Son. They gave Him wonderful gifts.

Item 4—Sewing Card. Very young children learn skills through practice. The thrill of accomplishment increases when a caring adult thinks his work is just great. Your learners may not thread the yarn through the holes of the sewing card in correct order, but they will enjoy trying. Copy the pattern for each child to have one. Trim around the outer frame of sewing card. Rub a glue stick all around the outer border to seal the edges especially well as you glue each copy to a piece of poster board. This makes a sturdy sewing card. Laminate the cards to make them durable. Punch holes at circles. Cut heavy yarn 40'' long for each child. Dip one end in white glue and let dry overnight to make a stiff point. Give a sewing card and piece of yarn to each child. Punch the stiff end through a hole from the back to the front to show learners how to use it. Tape the opposite end to the back of the card so that the yarn will not come out. Let your little ones enjoy punching the yarn in and out of holes. Keep the sewing cards in the class-room to reuse for other lessons.Prepare the visuals: On a piece of newsprint, around 4' long and about 10'' wide, arrange the four visual pictures. Leave 4'' space between pictures and on both ends. Glue or Plasti-Tak them in place. Tape or staple each end of paper to a 13'' length of ½'' or larger dowel-ing. Roll the scroll from the end so that picture 4-1 is in view. As story progresses, roll up the first picture and unroll the other side to show the next picture. Practice holding it in front of you facing outward so that you can roll the ends easily as you tell the story.

Bible Story (Point out Item 3-A on the bulletin board or poster.) Moses and the people of Israel built a beautiful tent building for God. They called it the Tabernacle. The Israelites worshiped God at the Tabernacle. When they moved to a new place, they moved the Tabernacle tent with them. God lived among His people at the Tabernacle. The people finally got to their new homeland. They built houses. King Solomon wanted to build a house for God. He did just that. (Point out Item 3-B.) The Temple was God’s house. God lived among His people at the Temple. Then Jesus came to earth. He grew up. He began preaching. He told people about God’s way to live. He began His church. The church would do His work on earth. “Wait for the Holy Spirit to give you power,” Jesus told His church. Then He went back to Heaven. The church members waited. (Hold the scroll visual to show picture 4-1.) They met for fellowship and prayer. On the day of Pentecost, a special celebration of God’s people, they were together in a house. Suddenly, the sound of a very great wind filled the house. (Roll scroll so that picture 4-2 shows to conceal picture 4-1 on the right.)
