Change

86% use their mobile devices (smartphone/tablet) in conjunction with watching TV.

Ashton Kutcher and Ellen DeGeneres (combined) have more Twitter followers than the

population of Ireland, Norway, or Panama.

If you were paid a $1 for every time an article was posted on Wikipedia you would earn $156.23

per hour.

71 percent of smartphone users that see TV, press or online ad, do a mobile search for more

information.

Moving to the New Semantic Layer

XI 3.x Customer Scenario

Using Business Objects

relational Universes?

Need new Semantic Layer

features?

No work necessary – it just works

Customers can benefit from all other new BOE & BI

tools capabilities.

Using BEx Queries?

Existing Universes can be opened and edited in the

information design tool to add new functionality

Follow normal lifecycle management process to

promote changed Universe to documents

Want/ready to use the new

Semantic Layer features?

Create Universe against SAP BW or MSAS and use

normal process for creation and publication of

universes

BI Clients updated to support BICS direct access

allowing customers to retain investment, while taking

advantage of new BI clients

The Information Engine

The new Information Engine is a BOE service available for all client tools

In 4.0, it will provide services to build the query and will be used by Web Intelligence, Crystal

Reports, Dashboard Design (Xcelsius), BusinessObjects Explorer

Features:

New dimensional query paradigm with member selection for OLAP sources

Ability to choose at multiple levels in hierarchical List of values

Ability to expose cascading prompts and list of values

Page 15: BI112

Information Design ToolBenefits for customers

• Provides light data profiling

• Enables designers to more easily test

out queries immediately

• Provides a security editor for universe

data and metadata

• Is more ―self-documenting‖ with table

families, colors and sticky notes

The Concept of Business Layer and Data Foundation

In Information Design Tool, the concept of ―Universe‖ is split

into two separate entities at authoring

Data Foundation

Business Layer

Page 18: BI112

The Concept of Business Layer and Data Foundation

The Business Layer represents the metadata that

is exposed to the end users through the query

panel in different client tools

A relational Business Layer is always based on one

Data Foundation

A relational Business Layer can be based on a

multisource Data Foundation. Multisource capabilities

are implemented in the Data Foundation

Page 19: BI112

Security

Security will be managed from

the information design tool in a

specific interface

Features:

Improved interface to set and

check security settings

Improved interface to view global

security settings by user or by

universe

Security management can be

restricted to allowed personnel

Page 20: BI112

Teamwork

New features allow multiple persons to work on the

same BI project

Features:

BI projects based on resource files (connections, data

foundations, business layers)

Share resources on the server and synchronize content

on local machines

Lock resources on the server when being edited

Selectively decide what modified resources should be

pushed on a server

Page 21: BI112

The Project Synchronization View

The Project Synchronization view makes it possible to share resources with other designers.

Multi-dimensional universes

Multi-dimensional

Real support of dimensions and hierarchies

No flattened data (data sets)

Calculated members and measures

Named sets

Hierarchical and cascading list of values

Objects filters

Member browsing

Dimensional Query Panel

Classic query panel including member selection

Powerful member selection:

– Member picker

– OLAP style selection: children, descendents,

parent, etc.

– Levels selection

– Calculated members and named sets

Page 23: BI112

One Query Panel for all Information Consumers

• Familiar user experience reduces training needs for all BI Products

• More control and visibility for precise data selection during Query Definition

Multi-source Universes

Benefits

Federate different database vendors, OLTP and DWH, SAP BW,

SAS, flat files

Lower TCO for integration projects (no complex ETL to

put in place)

May, in some cases, suspend the need for a consolidated DWH

Multi-tier deployment with load balancing

Source independence through SQL 92 and DF functions, while

keeping the ability to use native SQL when necessary

Data Security Profiles

Data Security Profiles can be defined for relational

universes

Data Security Profiles are the equivalent of classic

universe access restrictions

Connection Data Security Profile

Replaces a connection by another one

In case of multi-source universe, each connection can be

independently replaced.

Ability to drill into connection folders

Page 31: BI112

Business Security Profiles

Applying to both Relational and OLAP Universes

There are 3 types of Business Security profiles:

Query Creation

Data Displaying

Filters

Page 32: BI112

Relational Universe

For a relational universe, it is possible to create Data Security Profiles or Business Security Profiles

when you publish universe in the repository

2. Business Security Profile

Data Foundation

1. Data Security Profile

Relational universe published in the repository

Data Security Profiles secures the data source

« Object » universe access restriction has been moved

into Business Security Profile

Business Security Profile secures the Business Layer content

It is based on the metadata defined in the Business Layer

Dimensional Universe

For an OLAP universe which is published to the repository, it is possible to create only Business

Security Profiles
