Spirit Week Starts This

Friday!!


This year we are excited to support

the Emerson Rose Heart Foundation in their

endeavors to save the lives of children living

with heart defects in South Carolina and

around the world. Each year, more than

44,000 (almost 1 in a hundred) children are born with heart defects. The ERHF has

already been very engaged in advocating for children with congenital heart defects

(CHDs) by working with South Carolina State Senator Thomas Alexander on

legislation requiring every newborn in SC to be screened for heart defects before

they are discharged from the hospital. Through the efforts of the ERHF, Governor

Haley signed the Emerson Rose Act on June 13, 2013. The ERHF has given over

$19,000 to supply Pulse Ox equipment to dozens of hospitals, saving countless lives

in right here in Greenville, SC.

In addition to helping the lives of infants across the Upstate, ERHF is

currently reaching out to children from 3rd world countries (where heart surgery is

not available) by bringing them to the US in order to have lifesaving Open Heart

Surgery. Because of this global outreach, the Emerson Rose Heart Foundation is

able to help children live healthy lives all over the world as well as right here in

South Carolina. Along with improving the lives of people living with heart defects

across the world, the ERHF funds medical training necessary to perform heart

operations. By allowing medical personnel to practice various procedures, outcomes

of Open Heart Surgeries are significantly better.

A small portion of our funds will be used to fund the JL Mann After-School

Transportation Program as well as helping the Special Ed Department. Since its

introduction 3 years ago, the after-school program has allowed many students in

our school to stay for extra academic help and tutoring sessions, along with

allowing them to participate in extra-curricular activities. This program has been

vital in helping kids who ride the bus graduate.

All week long there will be places to eat breakfast and

dinner; the restaurants give us a percent of the

proceeds from that morning or night so you don't have

to worry about cooking all week!! Lunches will also be

offered, so send money to school every day!!!


Every day has a dress up theme, so make sure your outfits are

perfect; we will be looking for the best of the best!

Friday, September 12th: The week will begin with Color

Wars, a Kick-Off Assembly then Midnight Bowling at AMF lanes from 10 pm – 12 am followed by eating at Waffle House. We know this will be a late night, but we want to make every second of this week count!


Saturday, September 13th: 5K @ MESA – 7:15 a.m. Print the form from www.mannspiritweek2014.com. Bring it with you to the 5K run.

Yard Sale – 1284 Woodruff Rd (by Zaxby’s & Northern Tool & Equipment) 7:00-11:00 am

Slip-n-Slide Saturday – 2:00 – 4:00 pm at Spaulding Farm. Cost is $15. There will be oversized slip and slides and shaving cream games. Snowcastle Snowcones will be sold.

Hoedown Throwdown @ Mann – 7:00-10:00 pm. Cost is $10.

Dodgeball Tournament @ Mann – This will be the most intense event of the week! Sign up at school at the table by the Patriot. Cost is $60/team of 8; $10/person for every player after 8; $5 to go watch the fun! The tournament begins at 7:00 pm. Parents are encouraged to attend!

Moms’ Night Out – Paint scenic downtown Greenville in 1 evening! Visit www.mannspiritweek2014.com to register. Space is limited to 28 ladies!

Silent Auction - 6:00 - 9:00 pm at the Spaulding Farm Clubhouse. It is an adult

only event. Admission will be $15 and includes 1 drink ticket and appetizers. There will be baskets and many items to bid on. Last year's popular "Wine and Dine" will be back with even more gift cards to your favorite Greenville restaurants. Two new fun games have been added. The "Buy it Now" option will be available. If you don't want to stay until the end of the auction you can pay the "Buy it Now" price and the item is yours! You do not want to miss this event!

Week Long Activities Jail and Bail Ever wanted to put your best friend in jail?? NOW'S YOUR CHANCE!!! For a MINIMUM of $1, you can put someone you think is MOST deserving in our JL Mann Cafeteria Jail!! The great thing is, in order to get out of jail, "convicts must pay DOUBLE the amount that put them IN jail!! Class Challenges Listen during FIRST PERIOD for YOUR individual class to be challenged to raise money for Spirit Week!!


Teacher Dress Down Week (pay this week and dress down for an entire week in November) $40=Jeans and a collared shirt for an entire week! $50=Jeans and a t-shirt for an entire week! $75=Jeans and a Mann collared shirt on Fridays for the rest of the year! Penny Wars (during all three lunches)

Put pennies in your class’s designated bucket during lunch to win! Sabotage the other grades’ buckets by putting silver change and bills into their buckets, because those are NEGATIVE POINTS!!! THE GRADE WITH THE MOST PENNIES WINS AND WILL BE ANNOUNCED AT THE PEP RALLY FRIDAY!
