Bible-thumping general off on a crusade for Israel

WASHINGTONHe believes that Islam is an idolatrous, sacrilegious

religion against which we must wage a holy war, and he is off on a

crusade. He is U.S. Army Lt. Gen. William G. Boykin, newly

appointed deputy undersecretary for defense for intelligence,

chosen by George Bush to smite the enemies of Zion. The choice

seems appropriate for a regime known for its swagger, rather than its

intelligence.

We in the army of God, in the house of God, kingdom of God have

been raised for such a time as this, the man announced at the First

Baptist Church in Broken Arrow, Okla., on June 30, 2002.

Boykin warmed to the subject by expressing his contempt for the

Muslim deity, whom he referred to as an an idol unlike the Judeo-

Christian one.

Our religion came from Judaism

In a speech at the Good Shepherd Church in Sandy, Ore., June 21, the

general went on to declare: Ladies and gentlemen, we will never

abandon Israel, we will never walk away from our commitment to

Israel, because our roots are there. Our religion came from Judaism,

and therefore these radicals will hate us forever.

That means weve got a commitment to Israel. That means its acommitment were never going to abandon.

Go back and read the history books. Go back and read what the early

founders of this nation said about Israel, about the Jews. John Adams

wrote extensively of, he called it the Hebrews, the contributions they

had made to our concepts of liberty and the importance of their

contributions to the founding of this great nation.

We will never abandon Israel

Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin each, independently, when

asked to come up with a national symbol for this new nation, both

came up with a national symbol that reflected on our Jewish heritage.

One had Moses standing over the Red Sea with his staff and the water

parting.

The other had the Israelites coming out of bondage in the desert being

led by a ball of fire. They recognized the importance of our relationship

to the Jews and to Israel. Ladies and gentlemen, we will never abandon

Israel, we will never walk away from our commitment to Israel because

our roots are there.

Back at the First Baptist Church in Broken Arrow, Okla., Boykin

described the so-called war on terrorism as a war between Good and

Evil, noting that a spiritual enemy will only be defeated if we come

against them in the name of Jesus.

Jesus put Bush in the White House

The general then told how Jesus put President Bush in the White

House.

And then this man stepped forward. A man that has acknowledgedthat he prays in the Oval Office. A man thats in the White House today

because of a miracle. You think about how he got in the White House.

You think about why hes there today.

As Mordecai said to Esther, You ave been put there for such a time

and place. And this man has been put in the White House to lead our

nation in such a time as this.

Asked about the remarks, Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld

declined to criticize the born-again crusader in his personal war against

the powers of darkness, defending the generals statements as a

private affair.

Meanwhile, Boykin continues to make the rounds of churches, rallying

evangelical Christians for Israel and the Zionist cause.
