WHAT ARE STREETS?
‘ROADS’ are thoroughfares whose main
function is to facilitate the movement of motor traffic.
vs
‘STREETS’ have important public realm functions
beyond those related to motor traffic. They are typically lined with buildings and public spaces and, whilst facilitation of movement is still a key function, they normally support a range of social, leisure, retail and commercial functions.
