By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail.Benjamin FranklinBHSSafety Again?!Our #1 priority is the safety and security of every student and staff member in this building. We cannot be complacent or think that bad things will never happen to us.This is OUR school, OUR home, TOGETHER we must be accountable to and for one another.

BHSSchool SafetyThe U.S. Department of Education's Office of Safe and Healthy Students (OSHS) encourages schools to consider emergency management in the context of its four phases: mitigation/prevention, preparedness, response and recovery. One activity suggested by OSHS for enhancing school preparedness is the creation of a portable collection of essential emergency supplies, or Go Kits.

BHSSchool SafetyPlace the magnet flat over the strike plate After magnet is placed, lock your classroom door.

When the door is closed it will not latch completely, allowing access to the classroom while keeping the door locked at all times. REMEMBER: In a lockdown situation simply remove the magnet and close the door. You DO NOT want to waste time looking for your keys to lock your door; nor do you want to stand in the hallway locking your door.

BHSLockdown ProcedureIf a lockdown is ordered:Stay calm. Quickly survey hallway/restrooms near classroomOrder any students in hall/restrooms into your classroom.Move students in public areas to closest secure area, if possible.Remove door magnet to place door in locked position.Move students to a corner of the room (out of sight of the door).Sit students on the floor.Instruct students to remain quiet.Cover window(s) on or near door.Close blinds.Turn off the lights.Barricade door with furniture. Stay in room until notified by an administrator.ONLY open door for a police officer or staff member; follow his or her directions. If you are outside when a lockdown is ordered, proceed to the designated safe site. BHSSafety RemindersBe visible-wear your badge.Encourage students to keep moving.Keep your doors locked-do not prop outside doors.Do not leave your class/students unattended!Take safety drills seriously. Move students quickly and account for ALL students.Keep your ears open and eyes moving: ISIS!Information through SupervisionIntelligence through Surveillance

BHSSafety RemindersSafety is everyones responsibility. We are never off duty.Caring has a purpose. When students do not feel connected to adults and their school community, we are all at risk.Avoid embarrassment, sarcasm, and humiliation tactics as they increase the likelihood for aggression.
