Bhavan's FaithLet me once more set forth the Bhavan's faith for the benefit of new students and members, for it is necessary that they should understand it clearly and imbibe its spirit. The Bhavan stands for the reintegration of Indian Culture.In a world falling pieces under the impact of an amoral technological avalanche, it tries to hold fast to the fundamental values for which our culture stands:

RITA, SATYA, YAGNA AND TAPAS;FAITH in God who forms the Cosmic Order;

TRUTH which is a cord between mind, word and deed;DEDICATION which offers all movement of life as an offering to God;

SUBLIMATION which purifies the body and mind and transmutes instincts, passions and emotions into things of beauty.This regardless of form and doctrines is Dharma, the three fold aspects of which are SATYAM, SHIVAM, SUNDARAM - Truth, Love and Beauty.For these values our forefathers lived and died. So did Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, Swami Dayananda, Swami Vivekananda, Gandhiji and Sri Aurobindo among moderns.These values are embedded in our national outlook.We command the respect of the world because of them.We can look forward to the future with confidence only because they have the vitality which gives the power to vindicate their validity even in this fear-and-avarice ridden age of ours.We must make every effort in restoring an awareness of these values in personal and collective life.

Our Inspiring SoulInception of Amritsar Kendra......

An ecstasy achieved through serviceSh. P D Kumar, the founder Chairman of Amritsar Kendra of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Mumbai amalgamated with the higher divine soul on 27th Dec. 2002. He had a wider vision for the residents of Amritsar and laid the foundation of Amritsar Kendra in 1991. This Kendra became his passion and he did all his sincere efforts to bring it to the zenith. He had envisioned it with distinctive education. He wanted that students should be brought up in a distinctive manner so that they are not taught only academics but also the real skill of true humane. He was authentic combination of virtues like humility, love, selfless-service, charity generosity and benevolence. He was audacious enough to choose his own path and become the torch bearer for the many. Sh. P D Kumar was an ardent image of Mahatma Gandhi, who had a strong notion of simple living and high thinking. He was not sympathetic only but empathetic also. He was concerned with every individual of his institute and in lieu he received bundles of respect and reverence. His staff and students use to call him “Bauji’’ out of their love and deep rooted respect.

As a spiritual person, he strongly advocated Chinmaya Mission Amritsar and its activities. Due to his quest to serve humanity Bhavan’s SL Public School is a favorite haunt of mission’s innumerable activities like Gyan Yagna Chinmaya Monthly Widow Ration Pension Distribution, Bal Vihar. Study Group, Gita Chanting Inter School Competition etc. Inspired by his ideology the school has started to organize the Mass Marriages twice a year and all the expense is borne by the school.

Today School is marching ahead with an absolute strength and substantiality, taking his Vision as the ultimate target. The faculty is very strongly dedicated in taking the lives of students on the right and ethical path. So that we can say with proud that they are Bhavanites.

Let me once more set forth the Bhavan's faith for the benefit of new students and members, for it is necessary that they should understand it clearly and imbibe its spirit. The Bhavan stands for the reintegration of Indian Culture.In a world falling pieces under the impact of an amoral technological avalanche, it tries to hold fast to the fundamental values for which our culture stands:

ISLAND OF EXCELLENCE.

Dear Parents,

The foundation of every country is its educated youth. Education does not mean producing a vast population able to read and write but unable to distinguish right or wrong. Aim of education should be the formation of character, replacing an empty mind with an open one. Parents and educationists shoulder the responsibility to imbibe values in the students, something which is a dire need of today. We are to provide the child with good role models, making sure that the time spent with them is special. Such quality time leads to imbitions of the intangible virtues of truth, beauty, love and compassion, thereby sharpening the weapons of intuition, creativity and insight.

As parents and educationists, we are to develop a newer outlook–an optimistic perspective and a clear distinction between the right and the wrong in our students. A child is like a flower that blossoms best when watered in right amount under the righteous shade of sun. Let us, therefore, encourage and motivate our children so that in a freer and independent environment, they can choose some lucrative careers, serving society amply with their mind, body and spirit.

The highest education is that which does not merely give information butmakes our life in harmony with all existence.

In a student’s life, the arrival of great progress and prosperity happens when his talents have blossomed and when he has mastered his individual art with earnest practice. For a hard-working student who knows his target, greater venues and opportunities open up such that he automatically disciplines himself to face the mightier challenges in life.

As teachers and parents, we are to give a feeling of being distinguished to our students. We are to create an environment for them where creativity is kindled and flexible reins are given to the flight of imagination. Alongside, we are to provide a platform to them where they can express their thoughts and unfold their hidden talents.

And thus, efforts of parents and teachers have to blend, because a child is like an unfurnished diamond–yet to be chiseled and yet to be polished.

Let us make ourselves a source of inspiration, wisdom and right instruction to the valuable youth of the nation.

Life affords no greater responsibility, no greater privilege,than the raising of the next generation.

Kulapati K.M. Munshi once said that real strenght of Bhavan would lie not so much in the number of its buildings or institutions it conducts nor in the volume of its assets and budget, nor even in the growing publications, cultural and educational activities. It would lie in character, humility, selessness and dedicated work of its devoted workers. They alone can release the regenerative inuences, bringing into play the invisible pressure which alone can transform human nature. Hence, as a proud follower of his ideology Bhavans SL Public School, Amritsar stands as brand for conservation and promotion of Indian values and rich cultural heritage and in turn stimulate the process of transformation of human nature and character building.

To attain our goal to modify the lives of our students we make them practice certain rituals and traditions which would become an integral part of their character. Gayatri Havan is performed on special occasions and every morning which is attended by one class and the students who have their birthday on that day. All religious and national festivals like Indipendence Day, Republic Day, Sri Krishna Janamashtami, Prakash Utsav of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, Matri Puja, Basant Panchami, Gandhi Jayanti, etc are celebrated on the school campus with utmost zeal and enthusiasm every year, where students and sta participate whole heartedly. Following our tradition the school has started mass marriages for the upliftment of girls belonging to destitute families. Bhavans emphasises to foster religious harmony with its emphasis on Sarva Dharma Samabhav, equal respect for all religions.

The study of science is incomplete without adequate means of experimentation. The school has well panoplied science laboratories, where students enjoy a free access to inquiry through latest equipment. Teachers pay special attention to create an atmosphere where students can learn by doing i.e. by actually confronting themselves with real situations in a lab and collecting data for analytical study. The hypothetical matters are best understood if results are achieved rather than being told. An experiment based study makes a student curious to learn because it converts him into a self learner from a passive listener. Moreover it enhances a child's imagination which is integral to scientic inquiry because "Every great advance in science has issued from a new audacity of imagination."

The entire school is divided into four Houses–Aravali, Shivalik, Vindhyachal and Himalaya. The activities of each house are organized & supervised by two captains; a boy and a girl. Members of the sta act as House Masters/Mistresses, who look after the general progress of the pupils under their supervision. The houses organize various festivals, Inter-House competitions (like Declamation contests, Debate, Poetic-Recitation, Painting and Sports competitions etc.) to inculcate among the children creative capabilities and to give them a competitive edge in various inter-school competitions. The houses also tend to make them responsible and self-reliant. Inter-House meets are organized and the best house is given a running trophy.
