75 th INDEPENDENCE DAY

This year, we celebrated ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ to commemoratethe 75th year of progressive India's independence and the glorioushistory of its people, culture and achievements. The Government of India, this year, has taken the initiative tocelebrate and commemorate this monumental occasion. According toour Hon’ble Prime Minister Sh. Narendra Modi, "Azadi ka AmrutMahotsav means elixir of the energy of freedom, it means the nectar ofinspiration from freedom fighters, the nectar of new ideas, the nectarof new resolutions. and the nectar of self-reliance". This nectar ofinspiration from the past will serve to further inspire the cominggenerations of this country, he added.

The day saw the School Principal, Mrs. Soma Mukhopadhyayhoisting the National Flag and junior Bhavanites speaking ardentlyabout the innumerable sacrifices of the freedom fighters. The childreneven recited heart-rending patriotic poems. The celebrationsculminated with a melodious song by our music teacher in Gujarati under the initiative of ‘Ek Bharat Shreshth Bharat’ . Page 12: BHAVAN VIDYALAYA JUNIOR, Pre Primary/Vol II/Issue IV ...

Late Sepoy Harbhajan Singh (23 Punjab) was born in a village in KapurthalaDistrict and enrolled into the Punjab Regiment. Serving with his unit in Sikkim in1968, he passed away on October 4 that year while escorting a mule column fromTuku La to Dongchui La. He slipped and fell in a nullah and the water currentcarried his body two kilometres downstream. His body is said to have been foundthree days later and cremated with full military honours. He is said to have appearedin the dreams of his fellow soldiers and asked them to build a ‘samadhi’ for him. Hisunit did so 9 km from where the present shrine stands.

The soldiers deployed in the region gave him the status of the saint (Baba) becausethey believe that Baba Harbhajan Singh is still there with them and his paranormalexistence protects them. Many soldiers have reported the presence of BabaHarbhajan Singh, and they believe that the spirit warns them three days before theattacks. Soldiers say that if they ever sleep on duty, they feel a slap on their facewhich is normal to them as they believe that Saint Baba does this to protect the Indo-China borders.

Singh's room is cleaned every morning and every month and he draws amajor’s salary. He’s still allotted two months' leave annually when a team of soldiers'accompanies him' to his hometown. A berth in the train is reserved in his name andis left empty for the entire journey. Every year, on 11 September, his belongings aresent back to his hometown by the train that departs from New Jalpaiguri station,West Bengal and brought back the same way. This was done annually till he retireda few years ago.

So revered is he, that even the Chinese on the other side of the border leave a seatvacant for Baba as a sign of respect at flag meetings. People and soldiers passingthrough make it a point to pay their respects at the shrine. Clearly, faith is strongerthan anything else here.

You can know more about this great legend through the following link: https://youtu.be/N0uAUBL9I-w

Believe it or not, a dead soldier Harbhajan Singh is still on duty!!

National Sports Day is observed yearly on August 29, to commemorate thebirth anniversary of the Great Hockey Legend Major Dhyan Chand. One ofIndia's greatest athletes, Major Dyan Chand, was born on August 29 in 1905.Major Dhyan Chand, popularly known as 'The Wizard', earned three Olympicgold medals in 1928, 1932 and 1936. It has been wisely said that play is a relieffrom serious learning however for children, play is serious learning. Therefore, wheneverit comes to teaching of Mathematics in PrePrimary, our main objective is always toincorporate fun activities that not only giveour little flowers an opportunity to exploreand experiment but also to construct theirown knowledge. Keeping the above in mind, some of theactivities that we indulge in during ourclasses are - Go Fish, Making a ladder/caterpillar with clay, Dice Game, Count andClap Activity, Bingo -Game of Numbers andso forth.

Exposure to language is key to early literacy and language learning. Therefore, we ensure that the early language learning experience ofour little angels is a positive one. The solution to instilling life-long love for learning in the childrenis by disguising it with plenty of fun and games! When ‘Learning’ iscombined with ‘Games’, it is more natural. Gamifying learning isnot only entertaining but also makes learning easier and moreenjoyable for young children. Hence, an array of games likeLETTER HUNT, WORD WALL, BINGO, GO FISH, andSCRAMBLE are played regularly with our children for teachingthem English and Hindi language.

Learn Language – A Different Way

The different hues of colour add vibrancy to life and give expression to our

ever-fluctuating moods. Therefore, our initial step, here at Bhavan, is to

familiarize the children with bright colours as they have a natural affinity

towards them.

Flash cards and real life objects are shown related to specific colours.

Rhymes related to colours are also taught, thus adding exuberance and

enriching vocabulary into their life. All this is accomplished through

various interactive activities that they immensely enjoy and love splurging

in...

Singing and dancing are an integral part of a child’s growth. These fun andrecreational activities not only allow them to let loose but also help themlearn various sounds. They play a major role in improving their vocabularyand communication skills.

Dancing to music helps children build their motor skills while allowingthem to practice self-expression. Through dance, they learn to coordinateand control their bodies and the movement helps them develop spatialawareness.

The art of yoga is quite beneficial for the all-round development ofchildren. Physically, it enhances their flexibility, strength, coordination, and body awareness. In addition, their level of concentration and sense ofcalmness and relaxation improves. While doing yoga, children exercise, play and connect deeply with their inner self and their surroundings. Yogateaches our children to channelize their energies in a positive direction andwork diligently towards their goals.

Thus, here at Bhavans, we love encompassing an array of avant-garde activitiesthat are a beautiful amalgamation of music, dance and yoga.

Music gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind,

flight to the imagination and life to everything.”-
