Using NoodleBib with the Big6:

NoodleBib has traditionally been viewed as a reference tool to assist students in publishing their research during the 5th step of the Big6 research model. Citing sources is necessary to avoid plagiarism.

Since NoodleBib’s addition of its new notecard feature, students can and should take advantage of this reference tool during their actual location, use, and organization of information for a research paper.

PROCEDURES: STEP 2 (cont’d)

Once you have created a citation for a source you want to use in your research, you can generate custom notecards.

Notecards are divided into three sections: Direct Quotation, Paraphrase, and My Ideas.

First you copy and paste the information from the source into the Direct Quotation section.

Then you paraphrase the quoted material in your own words in the Paraphrase portion.

Finally, you have a spot in the My Ideas section to jot down your own original ideas, thoughts, questions, etc., about the source information.

You can then print the notecards you’ve created to use while drafting your essay.

PROCEDURES: STEP 3Now that you’ve seen how helpful

NoodleBib can be during the actual location and synthesis part of your research process, it’s your turn to test it out!

Your ultimate goal today is not to write a research paper. Rather, it is to practice locating, using, and organizing relevant information that you would use if you had to conduct research for a written assignment.

So here it is…

Imagine your teacher has asked you to write a persuasive essay on whether or not television and the media have a negative impact on today’s youthpopulation. In order to make an informed decision, you’ll need to research both sides of this issue.
