YEAR 7 CAREERSIt is never too soon to start thinking about the future, a group of Year 7s learnt when we attended a session led by a visitor from the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) during our second week at the college. We talked about on the importance of working hard at school and how the Ernest Bevin Values relate to the world of work.

We learnt that many of the skills we will learn at school such as good listening skills and organising our time are important in the work place. We talked about career aspirations and the importance of planning for the future. We also discussed how several famous people make their money and how they are planning for the future by investing their money. We really enjoyed the session and we learnt a lot as it made us realise that school prepares you for work in several ways and not just academically. Abubakar 7ABA & Bence 7JRS

SIXTH FORM GRADUATIONOn 13th September we welcomed back last year’s Year 13 students to celebrate their achievements at their graduation ceremony. Of the leavers 108 have so far confirmed their places at 31 different universities, and we have 22 starting apprenticeships. This year Brunel was the most popular university with 10 students gaining places there. A large number will study STEM subjects and the most popular course is Computing and IT. Two students have places to study medicine and 23 will attend some of the most prestigious universities including King’s College, UCL, Imperial and Sheffield. Congratulations and good luck to all our leavers in their next steps.

JUDO The judo squad has got straight back into competitions this term. Senior boys attended the Heart of England Judo Tournament on the Saturday 8th September 2018 at the University of Wolverhampton. Well done to Ayoub 11SAA who took a Bronze Medal at this competition. Ayoub lost his contest against the British Champion in Golden Score, but recovered well to win all his contests in repechage and obtain the Bronze Medal all by Ippon. Other players who participated were Kamaal 11AJT and Shayden 11SH. It was a very good start of the season and a great start to our preparations for the British Nationals which will be held in December.Junior boys attended the Crayford and Metro Judo Tournament on 15th September at Thomas Tallis School in Greenwich. There were many strong teams in attendance and we were pleased to secure two Gold medals. Special congratulations to Ali who beat an opponent two years older than himself to take the Gold. Sensei Mike

Results : Ali E. 8SW - GOLD, Youcef 9HS - GOLD

LONDON FIRE BRIGADE CAREERSA number of boys from Years 9, 10 & 11 attended a Careers Fair at City Hall in central London organised by the London Fire Brigade. Some of those attending took part in week-long courses with the fire brigade last year so it was a great opportunity to learn about the careers and pathways leading to joining the brigade.
