Congratulations, BPHS Class Of 2018!

• 425 members of the BPHS Class of 2018

• 59 graduated with Honors (QPA 3.5-3.749)

• 63 graduated with High Honors (QPA 3.75-3.999)

• 95 graduated with Highest Honors (QPA 4.0 and above)

• 81% are headed to a four-year college; 11% are headed to a two-year college; 5% are headed to a trade/technical school; 1% are headed to the workforce and 1% are headed to the military.

• Average SAT score—1122 -- 49 points higher than State average and 52 points higher than National average.

BPHS Students Honored At Awards And Recognition Night

Several Bethel Park High School students received awards and scholarships at the Annual Awards and Recognition Night, held on Wednesday, May 30.

In addition to the scholarships presented that evening, students who received other scholarships were presented with certificates of recognition and honor cords were distributed to students to wear at Graduation.

Quill & Scroll Inducts 15

Bethel Park High School inducted 15 students into its 2018 class of Quill and Scroll: Gavin Campbell, Danica Moody, Amber Schnupp, Maria Cerro, Nicholas Guimond, Korey Hajduk, Angeline Lorenz, Alex Mullen, Mikaela Narr, Victoria Slawinski, Juliana Carbone, Katherine Crooks, Lauren Mullen, Grace Regan and Brady Stallings.

Special recognition was given to freshman Logan Wright.

These students were chosen because they excelled in their communications work for either the school newspaper, yearbook, video production studio or literary magazine.

BPHS German News The Bethel Park High School German Club presented the following awards to sophomore Lily Wilson:

• Dietrich Award of Excellence, awarded to the student who demonstrates the most outstanding academic performance throughout the school year.

• Certificate of Recognition as the Most Outstanding Member of the BPHS German National Honor Society in 2017-2018.

• Summer Study Scholarship to the Millersville University Summer German Camp, in recognition of her enthusiasm for the BPHS German Club and her study of German at BPHS.

27 BPHS Students Inducted Into National Latin Honor Society

Twenty-seven Bethel Park High School students were inducted into the National Latin Honor Society in recognition of their outstanding academic achievement and citizenship in Latin class during the 2017-2018 school year.

Inducted were: Alex DiPrampero, Alyssa George, Alexandra Keplar, Elizabeth Hartnett, Korey Patterson, Saige Pinke, Brianna Shannon, Joe Wright, Eliza Albenze, Sean Conroy, Natalie Farmerie, Ariana Guerra, Angeline Lorenz, Brenna Manko, Jenna Peretin, Julianne Stein, Ryan Tischler, Julia Wright, Alex Brownfield, Andrew Cassano, Hannah Crawford, Marissa Christenson, Sebe DiPrampero, Liam Fink, Xavier Gaefke, Claudia Huber and Mark Vighetti.

Honor cords were presented to seniors Alex DiPrampero, Alyssa George, Alexandra Keplar, Elizabeth Hartnett, Korey Patterson, Saige Pinke, Brianna Shannon and Joe Wright.

Three Students Inducted Into

National Technical Honor Society

Three Bethel Park High School students were inducted into the National Technical Honor Society at the Steel Center for Career and Technical Education:

• Kara Maerkle (Cosmetology)

• Anthony Stephon (Electrical Construction)

• Payton Yeager (Cosmetology)

Students are eligible for induction if they maintain a minimum 3.5 overall GPA, have no discipline issues and are nominated by their instructors.

BPHS Students Are Finalists In National Forensics Tournament

Bethel Park High School Forensics Team members Madison Newman (Dramatic Performance) and Caleb Shook (Student Congress) competed at the National Catholic Forensic League’s Grand Tournament in Washington, D.C. and were among the top 25 percent of competitors to make it past the Preliminary Rounds into the Final Rounds.

Chess Club Wins Section Championship For The

Second Consecutive Year

The Bethel Park High School Chess Club won the Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Chess League Section A Championship for the second consecutive year. This year they finished the season with a perfect 8-0 records.

Members of the competition squad are Tanush Bahl, Matthew Casaldi, Kobe Coleman, Adam Collier, Sebe DiPrampero, Alex DiPrampero and Nic Minshall.

Ninth Graders Earn Three Awards On Spring Music Trip

Bethel Park High School Freshmen earned three awards during the annual Ninth Grade Music Trip to the Music Showcase Festival in Hershey, PA.

• Ninth Grade Band – Superior Rating

• Ninth Grade Girls Choir – Superior Rating

• Ninth Grade Orchestra – Excellent Rating

Sports Teams Have Great Spring Season INDIVIDUAL ACCOLADES TRACK • Rebecca Libell (Pole Vault) and

Sarah Gilliam (Shot Put) qualified to compete at the PIAA State Championships.

• Rebecca Libell (Second Place/Pole Vault), Sarah Gilliam (Fourth Place/Shot Put and Seventh Place/Discus), Kathryn Kimes (Sixth Place/Pole Vault) and Mike Conaboy (Eighth Place/Shot Put) – WPIAL Championship Medalists

TENNIS • Max McKitrick and James

Ferrence finished in Third Place at the Section Doubles Championships and qualified for the WPIAL Doubles Tournament.

TEAM ACCOLADES BOYS VOLLEYBALL • Section Champions for

the eighth consecutive year

• WPIAL Finalists for the third time in the past six years

• Qualified for the PIAA Playoffs

BASEBALL • Section Champions for

the second time in the past three years.

IMS Students Honored At Eighth Grade Awards Day

Several Independence Middle School eighth graders were recognized at the annual Eighth Grade Awards Assembly for a variety of outstanding achievements, including writing, music, service, foreign language and being a good student and classmate.

IMS Students Honored At Academic

Excellence Recognition Program

255 students (115 seventh graders and 140 eighth graders) received DISTINGUISHED HONORS for maintaining a minimum 3.75 QPA through the first three nine weeks of the 2017-2018 school year.

104 eighth graders received PRESIDENTIAL ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE AWARDS for maintaining a minimum 3.5 QPA throughout seventh grade and through the first three nine weeks of the 2017-2018 school year and for scoring Advanced on either the PSSA Reading or Math Test.

Lincoln Students Have Fun Learning On STEAM Day

Lincoln Elementary students spent the last day of school working together on some fun, STEAM themed activities, including: • Building towers out of pipe

cleaners but only using one hand;

• Building towers out of plastic cups;

• Flying paper airplanes down a runway;

• Using tower blocks, Legos and Magformers to create a house of the future;

• Creating art out of numbers;

• Playing group trivia games using Chromebooks;

• Making robo-wheels.

Franklin Fourth Graders Participate In Embryology Study

Franklin Fourth Grade students participated in an Embryology Project, where they studied eggs to determine if they were fertilized; determined if the fertilized eggs were viable and watched baby chicks emerge from hatched eggs.

Memorial/Washington Students Participate In Parachutes For The Planet Campaign

Memorial and Washington Art Students in Mrs. Mittner’s room had fun making parachutes for the national Parachutes for the Planet Program, sponsored by the Mother Earth Project, to create awareness about climate change and encouraging living sustainable lifestyles. Students used watercolors to create parachutes with eco-conscious slogans on them such as “Save The Earth—It’s Our Turf!” and “Save The Bees—Please!” Their designs were uploaded onto the Parachutes for the Planet’s Instagram site.
