Emergency School ClosingsThe School District is concerned about student and employee safetyduring inclement weather. Cancellations, delayed openings or earlyclosings of school due to emergency or inclement weather will bedetermined as early as possible. All parents will be notified of delaysand cancellations by a pre-recorded message to their primarycontact telephone numbers via the School MessengerNotification Service. Information can also be obtained on the district’sweb, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Google+ pages, or by calling theInformation Line at 412-854-8407. Information will also be called into thethree Pittsburgh television stations—KDKA, WTAE and WPXI. Thedecision to delay, cancel or early dismiss school due to inclement weatherconditions is made by the Superintendent in conjunction with theMunicipality and the National Weather Service, with the safety of ourstudents paramount in the decision making process.

If school is cancelled due to inclement weather, all Bethel ParkRecreation Department activities held in school facilities arealso cancelled for that day.

Two Hour DelaysSometimes the passage of time will enable road crews to clear the roadsand allow busses to warm up and transport children safely to school. If aTwo Hour Delay is called, students should arrive at their bus stops or atschool two hours later than usual.

On days when a two hour delay is called, the district will operate aModified Kindergarten Schedule as follows:• Morning Kindergarten will attend from 11:20 AM to 1 PM• Afternoon Kindergarten will attend from 2 to 3:40 PMModified Kindergarten equalizes both sessions to 1 hour, 40 minutes ofinstruction.

Parents, please be reminded that on days with delays, building staff mayalso be delayed in getting to school due to road conditions, so there maynot be anyone at the front door to let your child into the building, shouldthey arrive too early. Please do not drop your child off at school beforethe delayed starting time.

In the event of an emergency closing, all parents should have priorarrangements made for their children. Children should be aware of whatto do, or where to go, in the event parents are not home at the time ofthe emergency dismissal.

HELPFUL INFORMATIONSchool Messenger Notification ServiceThe Bethel Park School District uses the School Messenger Notification Service to notifyparents and employees about things such as school delays/cancellations, upcoming schoolevents and emergency situations. The primary three uses of School Messenger will be tocall parents and employees as soon as a decision is made on days with inclement weather,to notify you of a delay or cancellation; to email parents the school district’s weekly E-MailNewsletter, and to receive school-specific calls and emails from the Principals. Pleasecontact a secretary at one of your children’s schools to make sure they have the correctemail address in the Student Data Base or whenever your email changes. This will greatlyassist us in keeping touch with you throughout the school year with importantinformation.

Get on the E-Newsletter Mailing List! All parents who provide their email address for the Student Data Base will automaticallyreceive the Bethel Park E-Mail Newsletter. The Student Data Base is currently only set upto accept one email address per parent. If you would like to receive the E-Newsletter atmore than one e-mail address, please email [email protected] with your full nameand e-mail address, and you will receive the E-Newsletter. It’s as easy as that!

ALL Volunteers Required To Get Clearances Before Volunteering In SchoolsThe Bethel Park School District encourages the involvement of parents and guardians inour schools. Pennsylvania State Law now requires EVERY volunteer who has directcontact with students to have the necessary clearances on file with the School District. The required clearances are the Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance (Act 151),Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check (Act 34) and the FBI Federal CriminalHistory Record (Act 114). The PA Clearances are free to volunteers and the FBIClearance is $22.60. Volunteers who have resided in Pennsylvania for ALL of the past 10years and have never been convicted of a Disqualifying Offense can sign a Waiver thatwould eliminate the need for the FBI Clearance. No one will be permitted to volunteer inour schools until they present all three clearances (or the two PA clearances and thewaiver) and a signed Acknowledgement of Volunteer Obligations Form to the District’sAdministration Building, where they will be photographed and issued a Qualified VolunteerID Card that must be worn every time they are volunteering in our schools or withBethel Park students on a field trip or other outing not on school property. To learn moreabout what volunteers need to do to successfully volunteer in our schools, please go to:www.bpsd.org/VolunteerInformation.aspx.
