Praying, Praising, Proclaiming Christ!

I love this time of the year! The leaves are changing, there is crispness in the air, harvest is underway, football and volleyball keep us hopping, the kids are back in school with routines, and church is back in full swing with educational programs, full worship services, God’s Work. This year you will once again be receiving a mailing; reminding you of all that stewardship entails. We each get to give all that we have and live our lives in every vocation to the glory of God. During this time, we ask that every member – young or old—also fill out a Time and Talent work sheet, considering new ways to serve the Lord. We will prayerfully consider how we have been given many blessings to be a blessing to God, God’s church, and our Brothers and Sisters in Christ. We will be asking for you to fill out a commitment card to determine what your giving will be to God this year. BE.THE.Love

A BIG Thank you to all who participated in God’s Work Our Hands Sunday!

Together we served our community through: giving the park shelter a needed paint refresh, welcoming the stranger into our polished worship space, by providing a great breakfast to our community, sending love to college kids, helping our neighbors get ready for cooler weather.

You did great work showing the love of Christ by serving our community. Thank you for being the LOVE!

Food Backpack Program

The Board of Outreach is looking for your help in acquiring food items for the Food Backpack Program. The Food Backpack Program is a program that sends food home on the weekends with students that receive reduced or free meals at school and may not have food available to them at home on the weekends.

A different item of food will be focused on each month that can be dropped off in front of the office in a marked container.

This month's item is peanut butter!

Thank you for your help in supporting this important outreach ministry!

Coming in December! Save the Date! The 500th anniversary of Reformation is just one year away. Brush up on your Reformation history with a very special opportunity. The Minneapolis Institute of Art is hosting a special installation, “Martin Luther: Art and the Reformation”, with art and artifacts traveling for the first time ever outside of Germany. Find out more about the exhibit by visiting: www.newartsmia.org/luther.

And Bethel will be a part of it! Saturday December 10, join us for a bus trip for a day of fun, education, and exploration. We will be pairing this event with a stop at the American Swedish Institute for their Nordic Christmas celebration, complete with a Santa Lucia concert.

Cost information, itinerary, and sign-up sheet will be coming. Watch the Beacon and the blue sheets for more information.

It is that time of year again- The Season of the “F’s.” Faith (with Wednesday School starting), Fall, Football, and Flu. You will see “Flu Clinic” signs all over. Take the opportunity to stop in with your insurance card and get the vaccine. Clinics offer “flu blitzes” as

do some pharmacies. Richland County Health Department has “Flu Shot Fridays” where you can walk in and get a flu vaccine. No matter where you go, bring your insurance card. It will make your visit quicker. The vaccine does not help with the stomach flu- it is for

the respiratory type flu. It won’t prevent you from catching a cold virus. The ND Department of Health has a great poster that I am sharing with you that shows the differences between a cold and the flu. Hand washing is very important with prevention and covering

your cough is also very important. Stay Healthy! Michelle Eberhardt RN Faith Community Nurse

Library Notes. . . Here are some nonfiction books that have come into the library recently.

FL Beautifully Pinned Promises by Mary Grace Birkhead is a unique look at the Psalms where the reader will 240 discover the blessings of God that will touch his/her heart and provide promises to hold on to. BR

FL Pearls from Heaven by Mary Grace Birkhead shares verses (pearls) that are the simple and profound reminders 240 of God’s heart of love toward us. We discover anew how precious and unique we are in His eyes. BR

FL Before Amen by Max Lucado examines the simplicity of and gives us a quotable, repeatable, portable prayer that 248.3 everyone needs and can use. LU

FL Lost and Found by Sarah Jakes is Sarah’s own story. The daughter of a high profile pastor, she was pregnant at 289.9 age 13, shunned at school and gossiped about at church. She could have let her struggles dictate her future, JA but she let God turn her deepest pain into His perfection.

FL Handles for Harmony by James R. Bjorge. With many modern marriages held together by a thread, Bjorge offers 306.8 a number of brief meditations designed to help couples weave together many threads to form a strong, enduring BJ rope of love.

FL The Total Money Makeover, A Proven Plan for Financial Fitness by Dave Ramsey offers a no nonsense approach 332 to money matters, providing not only the how-to but also a grounded and uplifting hope for getting out of debt RA and achieving total financial health.

B The Legend of King Max by Nina Dalberg and Richard Hinrichs, who are from North Dakota, recounts the story 921 of Ralph Maxwell who built the town of Lidgerwood. The authors try to reconstruct what may have influenced the MA crude Canadian lumberjack, Maxwell, to transform himself into a polished gentleman, a shrewd entrepreneur and a dangerous and deadly opponent. These books will be displayed during the month of October on the top shelf of the north bookcase. After that time those with the FL designation will be found in numerical order in the north bookcase. The B designation can be found on the northwest shelving, arranged first by number then by alphabetical order. Nonfiction is often slower reading, but these vol-umes are full of really good stories and reflections. Stop in and check them out.

DAYTIME BOOK CLUB A small group met on 9-13-16 to discuss the book “The Nightingale” by Kristen Hannah. This was a much loved book by all of us. In fact, we have read a lot of her books during the last few years and find all of them enjoyable.

Books to be read in book club for the next several months:

October 11 Kitchens of the Great Midwest by J. Ryan Stradal This book is about a young woman with a once-in-a-generation palate who becomes the iconic chef behind the country’s most coveted dinner reservation. Each chapter tells the story of a

single dish & character.

November 8 Burial Rites by Clarissa Sharp What spirit roams Louise Dawson’s house? You’ll need to read to find out. This is definitely a page turner.

December 13 Advent or Christmas book of choice to share with the others

January 9, 2017 The Light Between Oceans by M. L. Stedman This is a love story. The setting is the early 1900’s in Australia. The keepers of the Janus Rock Lighthouse are Tom Sherbourne and his wife, Isabel. This is the author’s first novel which has already been made into a movie. We will be meeting on October 11, 2016, at 10:30 am in the Bethel Library. Our current schedule is always the 2nd Tuesday of each month. All are welcome!

“The reading of a fine book is an uninterrupted dialogue in

which the book speaks and our soul replies.”
