However, I can’t stress enough how important it is for residents to continue your persistence in NOT allowing folks into the building you do not know. Jerry Letkeman Executive Director

John 15:12: “My command is this:

Love each other as I have loved

you."

Let me begin with a reminder of Bethany Manor’s mission: Our mission (the reason we exist) is providing residents with safe,

affordable housing and an enriched quality of life through programs and services. There’s over 30 years of history behind this mission. I’m honoured to walk with you as that

journey continues.

A big thank-you to all our volunteers!

Bethany Manor depends on the work of many volunteers. We continue to need

volunteers for: serving meals, Sunday Ser-vices (ushering, sound technicians-training available – please contact Paul Friesen), committee involvements (Worship Commit-tee-arranging Sunday Services, Cheerful Giving Committee-supporting fundraising, Community Life Committee-building a stronger community-contact your floor

representative, Birthday Social Committee-help plan monthly birthday celebration events). There are many other opportunities to serve and get involved that I’ve not men-tioned but are very important. Please

contact Jennifer Banman, Quality of Life Manager if you’re interested or let your floor representative know.

Construction Update: The new electrical vaults are in place and Diversified Electric will be working on placing the new electrical lines from the old vaults to the new. The old vaults will then become junction boxes. This process will involve some electricity disrup-tions but we’ll give you as much advance

notification as possible. Zak’s construction will be putting in screw piles and preparing the foundation. The actual modules of the walkway are already drywalled and will be moved on site as soon as possible. We hope to have the walkway functional before

Christmas and we’ll finish up the loose ends in spring.

We welcome feedback on the upcoming new Bistro area. The Bistro will be serving directly out of the kitchen beginning in 2019. We would like to create a nice Bistro atmos-phere in the multi-purpose area by the kitchen. We welcome your ideas on how to make this space as enjoyable and functional as possible. If you have ideas please talk to Jennifer Banman, Jennifer Bulka, Marianne Hamm or Dan Kierstead. Ideas around atmosphere, furniture, food service and any-thing else would be welcome.

If you have any other ideas, suggestion or feedback please connect with a manager or the Executive Director, write a note in the suggestion box, ask your floor rep to pass it along, email the office at: [email protected] or directly to the Executive Director at [email protected].

I want to really promote the power of encouragement. To encourage someone, in even the smallest of things, can be that little spark that gives someone hope and re-newed vitality. I want us, as a community, to really value encouragement, to speak up and say encouraging words to one another. To express gratitude, to express a compli-ment, to let someone know that they’re appreciated or that you’re thinking of them or praying for them. Encouragement is pow-erful because it heals you, it restores you, and it motivates you to be the best you can be. I have been the recipient of much en-couragement here, thank you!! Another thing, when you receive encouragement you become empowered to give encourage-ment.

It’s very easy to go the opposite way, to complain or to refuse to say anything uplift-ing to others. Do the hard thing and choose to be remembered as a person of encour-agement. Join me in a commitment to encouragement.

Enjoy October!

Spiritual Care News & Notes

October 2018

"I believe that appreciation is a holy thing,

that when we look for what's best in the person

we happen to be with at the moment,

we're doing what God does.

So, in loving and appreciating our neighbour,

we're participating in something truly sacred."

~ Mr. Rogers ~

BULLETIN COVERS FOR ADVENT Lois is looking for art that can be used for Thanksgiving and Advent Bulletin Covers.

Art pieces that are not on paper can be photographed. If we have a lot of art (and I hope we do!!) we will use more than one bulletin cover per Sunday.

I am looking for art that is original to the resident. Send them portrait style to match the way the bulletin is photocopied.

I’m looking forward to seeing what you come up with!!

Beautiful Feet Ministries Is still accepting devotional material, Bibles, commentaries, etc. to be shipped to Africa.

There is a box in the MCC Gift Shop by the column on the floor. Many thanks!
