Rabbi Marty It’s hard to believe that I have served Beth Israel Sinai for almost 20 years. (Actually, my affiliation with the congregation goes back to 1997 when I first interviewed for the position.) As I look back over the last 20 years together, despite the handful of critics who predicted our demise, we have continued as a vibrant congregation. Our commitment to maintaining a strong TRADITIONAL Jewish presence in southeast Wisconsin has never been stronger. Shabbat evening and morning services, holiday services, and adult education classes are regularly attended. The entire community, regardless of belief, race, or sexual orientation, is welcomed. Still our community has many challenges ahead. To aid in our future growth, every member should consider themselves an “ambassador” promoting the values of TRADIONAL-EGALITARIAN Judaism espoused by Beth Israel Sinai. Encourage both members of nearby synagogues (on days when they do not have officially scheduled services) to become ASSOCIATE MEMBERS of our temple. Offer to participate in their activities. Not only are Interfaith families welcomed. But non-Jews seeking a better understanding of the first monotheistic religion are warmly invited to attend. (For a full list of classes and services offered, contact Rabbi Marty at [email protected] or leave a message at BIS at (262)633-7093. The MISSION STATEMENT of Beth Israel Sinai is: "FOCUS ON WHAT UNITES US RATHER THAN WHAT DIVIDES US.” At BIS, there are no Orthodox, Conservative, Reform, or Humanistic Jews. There are only HUMAN BEINGS seeking a BETTER UNDERSTANDING of Judaism. As, I begin my next 20 years as your Rabbi (from my mouth to G-d’s ears), may our Temple family continue to grow from strength to strength. CHAZAK, CHAZAK, v’NITCHAZEK. SEE YOU IN SHUL RABBI MARTY P.S. Please check our website and like us on Facebook. For more information about our synagogue visit bethisraelsina.org. Our Roots
This is a story about one of our former members Morris Kaufman, Chuck Kaufman graciously sent us a brief
history of Morris’s life.
Morris Kaufman was born in Russia where he attended the Jewish Theological Seminary for six years and
further studied modern Hebrew in Odessa, Russia, before immigrating to the United States in 1906.
Morris married Sadie Aronin in 1910 and they were active in Beth Israel Sinai Congregation where he held major religious offices for more than forty years. In 1968 he was honored by the Racine Jewish Community
for his knowledge, dedication, and inspiring spiritual life.
The couple’s family included two sons, Dr. Benton Kaufman and Dr. Eugene Kaufman and six grandchildren.

The Presidents Message It is hard to believe that it has been 20 years since Rabbi Adelberg has come to Beth Israel Sinai to serve our congregation. We want to thank Rabbi for all the years of service to our congregation. It has been a blessing for us to have his dedication. Donations are always welcome. The next Shabbat dinner will be in March. If you want to learn how to make the challah please let me know and we can work out time for us to bake together. Please feel free to call me if you have any concerns, 262-945–7675 Joyce
