CLOVERFIELDS JANUARY/FEBRUARY 2020 CHRONICLE

Are you a U.S. Veteran? Do you need help with your disability claims?

Cloverfields Community member, Ralph Bateman, is the Chapter Service Officer for Edward T. Conroy Disabled American Veterans Chapter #9, representing Caroline, Kent, Queen Anne’s, and Talbot counties. He is available to submit VA disability claims or answer questions about the VA claims process. The DAV chapter meets 7PM on the 3rd Thursday of the month at the Grasonville VFW and all Veterans or concerned citizens are welcome. Their Facebook page is - https://www.facebook.com/groups/1050233678511287/ Besides chapter info, Ralph posts helpful tips like the following for our local Veterans:

I've been asked a lot lately about VA requirements to claim unemployability, which automatically increases VA benefits to 100%.

There are 2 requirements: 1) you must have one disability rated at 60% or greater or multiple disabilities that add up to 70% - AND - 2) you can't hold a job to support yourself financially due to a service connected disability. Under certain circumstances, like being hospital bound, you may qualify at a disability rating below 60%.

The VA can be fickle but they don't believe in age discrimination so your age has nothing to do with your qualification for unemployability. The VA is holding your disability benefits for you so why not apply?

Here are the forms that you need to apply for unemployability. They can be filled out online and printed off.

NEW OFFICE OPENS IN EASTON FOR TREATMENT OF

MENTAL HEALTH, SUBSTANCE ABUSE AND LIFE COACHING

Helping to Reflect

The Goodness within

You to the World around You

George Cody moved to the Eastern Shore in December of 2013 after living in Connecticut for most of his life. He had been

a practicing dentist there since 1971, both in solo and group practice. During that career, he received many awards being

honored with appointments to two international organizations for his international humanitarian efforts. As Dr. Cody

approached retirement from the group practice, he desired to continue helping others. He returned to university studies

and was accepted into a program devoted to co-occurring disorders of mental health and substance abuse. He received a

Master of Social Work degree (MSW) with honors from Southern Connecticut State University. Dr. Cody then moved to

the Eastern Shore and has worked part time for two different mental health agencies. Upon completion of the license

exam for clinical practice (LCSW-C), Dr. Cody decided to open a private practice, Chesapeake Reflections, LLC. He chose

this name because of his love for the Eastern Shore and the fact that he feels that by helping people balance their lives,

they will reflect back to others the goodness that every individual has within.

Mission Statement Our Declaration of Independence states that we are each entitled to “Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.”

Chesapeake Reflections’ goal is to help each individual attain those goals on a personal basis. As an individual proceeds

through life, there are always challenges. When we learn that the challenges do not have to overwhelm us, we can begin

to enjoy life. We become free from anxiety, worry, and despair regarding things that are present in our lives which we

cannot change. As we do so, each individual can become empowered to live a life of happiness and contentment. Our

goal is for each of our clients to be able to be able to reflect to others both the talents and inner beauty that each person

possesses.

George M. Cody, LCSW-C uses multiple therapeutic techniques to help improve the life of each individual. Mr. Cody finds

personal fulfillment as his clients begin to smile again, which is the result that he achieved with patients in his prior career

as a dental practitioner. The treatment modality is individualized to help each client restructure their life to achieve their

personal goals.
