With more extreme weather, more homeowners now want back up power (Irene, Sandy, 2014 Winter Polar Vortex ...) More people working from home offices and carrying power usage to extremes. Fire response will not know if there is a backup power source. Safety for first responders must be considered in the installation process.

Extreme weather, and summer peak electricity demands disrupting businesses who now want back up power. Commercial fires can destroy one or many stores along busy corridors. Fast spreading fire often start in the rear and travel with lightning speed toward the front of the store. Grid power and any secondary power supplies is the first thing that must be disconnected so firefighters can search for trapped victims.

When AC systems are on backup power systems, and that backup system is not known to fire departments, the AC system can restart and change the fire conditions inside the burning building. Fires have been sucked across vast distances by the return flow of AC systems. This can also compromise the roof structure and cause a collapse that may trap civilians and firefighters.
